4. My dog got a lot cuter as he got older...

...he's a Beagle/German Shepherd mix, and he was actually an ugly pup. He looked like a little donkey. But he's adorable now - almost too cute for a manly man such as myself. ;-)

3. Thousands of years of selective breeding.

Humans have given better care to the ones that were cute to human tastes. So there was a selective pressure for cuteness. Just like with the samurai crabs in Japan.

If you don't know what they are, there are crabs in Japan who have a samurai pattern on the back of the shell. When one is caught it is thrown back in the water and gets to breed. Over thousands of years, they are now dominant.
