YUCK! Holey moley, that sounds awful! BTW: When I said tomatoes, I meant raw ones. I can eat them if they are cooked (like in stew) and I love tomato soup and tomato sauce. Just keep the slimy raw things away from me and I'm OK.

108. It's sooooo easy and yummy..
This makes it's own "custard" while it bakes. Here's the recipe-feel free to cut and paste where/whenever.

Rhubarb Custard Cake:

1 Yellow Cake Mix (plus ingredients to prepare)
2 1/2c. raw rhubarb-diced (you can use more if you want)
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 pints whipping cream (real whipping cream-unwhipped
whipped cream for garnish.

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare cake mix according to package diretions. Pour into prepared 9 x 13 pan.Mix rhubarb and sugar and sprinkle on top of cake mix. Pour whipping cream over rhubarb. Bake 45-50 minutes. Cool before serving, and serve with additional whipped cream.

21. Just for clarification
do you mean general frying, sauteeing, etc or deep frying?

I find the choice of pan is very important in that respect, too...a well seasoned cast iron is tops, imo. You need a lot more oil in a stainless steel. (and I would never use teflon)

I should point out I was even referencing things like pizza with too much cheese, or heavy cream/butter sauces, etc.

Cast iron is the best for any type of frying. I've got a skillet and a grill pan made from cast iron. They're the best.

I totally agree with you on greasy pizza. :puke:

every recipe I've seen calls for wheat flour as well, and I can't eat wheat (intolerance). I've no idea if it would work ok with rice or bean flour - those two are quite tricky to work with.

Do they turn out better than store bought ones?

100. That sucks about the gluten intolerance.
Unfortunately, gluten is normally what holds noodles together. But you can make soba with just buckwheat flour if you're careful when cooking it, because it's more delicate than if you use wheat as well. Don't put the noodles in water that's boiling too furiously, or they'll fall apart. That's the problem with trying to cook them as you would pasta; often the surface will have turned mushy and pasty before they're cooked in the centre.

The Japanese have a procedure called sashimizu, in which you put the soba in the boiling water and almost immediately add some cold water to bring down the temperature a bit. Then as the water comes to a boil again, you add some more cold water. You do this a few times and then the noodles are done. They won't exactly be al dente, but then they're not intended to be.

Although here in Cali, there's good fast food (Tommy's, The Hat, Pink's Hot Dogs, In-N-Out, and so on) and bad fast food (Carl's, Jack In The Crack, McDonalds, Taco Hell, etc). It's the latter that makes it feel like punishment. Especially a couple of hours afterward.

There are only three of us, and I pointed out that 33% of those at the table really hate mincemeat, whereas 100% like cherry or apple pies. But she still gets mincemeat every year.

Fortunately, I'm not a dessert fan in any situation, so it's no big deal. But I really hate mincemeat.

That I paid for. This was part of the email that the chef sent.
And despite what I've said about things I'm not fond of, I agree with him 100%:

"We define diet restrictions as things that will adversely affect your
health as opposed to food preferences. We are only interested in
things you are allergic to.
Part of the experience is the spirit of adventure.
If any members of your group have a multiplicity of cosmetic food
issues, this dinner will be a complete waste of your time and money.
We attach the term "cosmetic food issues" to such things as the
following :

Vegetarians, No consumption of terrestrial animals, fish or shellfish.
Vegans, Atkins Diet,High protein or Low Carb Diet.
Raw Foods.
People who do not like their food to "touch" ie.....the steak cannot
