Attention collectors! What's the strangest thing you collect?

For me, I have become somewhat of a radio station jingle collector. You know...the musical jingle radio stations play between songs that identify their call letters and frequencys. There is quite a range of styles of jingles out there and I love to hear them! The ones used in the 90's seem to be my favorites so far. I have MANY different stations jingles and am constantly searching for new ones! I know, I know...I'm a weirdo.

7. Banana stickers ...

... The stickers the produce company puts on a bunch of bananas. I started this when I was a kid for no reason in particular, had an entire wall adorned with the things. I've lost my collection a few times over the years as people not familiar with what I was doing thought they'd give me a hand and "clean" stuff. But, I rebuild.

19. It's more than a bit odd ...

I was stupid enough when I was in 2nd grade to bring a part of the collection to school for "show and tell." We were supposed to bring something we collected, and besides coins, which several people collected, that was the only thing I had. And, I wanted my show to be unique. I also learned a lot about the places where the bananas came from, boring information that I included in my "tell."

Got me the nickname banana boy for the rest of my school life. Years later, people called that who didn't even know why they were calling me that.

9. I don't know...I collect a lot of stuff.

Old game show memorabilia, old board games, vintage radios, vintage cookbooks (40s to 70s mostly, but have some older ones), vintage kitchenware, vintage menus and other ephemera...and any genuine retro kitsch that catches my eye.

I love 50's style and vintage stuff too! I have a couple 50's cookbooks too from Better Homes & Gardens. They even give tips on giving the best dinner parties!

22. I love cookbooks too; I have a WWII one from my grandma that

has the wartime supplement and how to cook stuff with the rationed supply they had at that time.
I love vintage kitchen stuff too...it's all over the top of my fridge and cabinets, catches way too much dust but I love it.
I am NOT a minimalist, that's for sure!!

We rotate collections off the mantle each year.

We put out our huge collection of 50's Gurley Xmas Candles at the holidays, then pick something different each year to put out.

Still, how can you truly display 3000 pieces of Melmac????

I have some, but not that much. I have several of the TexasWare and Boonton splatter pattern mixing bowls. I always thought they were so pretty (as does my mother...she still has some that she had when I was a child). I have some of her old Boontonware dinnerware also. My dad got it straight from the factory on a business trip in the 60s. And of course, I have the Melmac stuff I've collected on trips to garage sales and flea markets. I have several Boonton S&P sets, a few Boonton and other brand sugar/creamer/butter sets, and a fabulous burnt orange nut dish.

32. My favorite Melmac is ColorFlyte

but a recent favorite is Holiday by Kenro, made in little Fredonia Wisconsin. They had a great melmac Ice Bucket in Pink or Aqua.

The Russel Wright stuff is exquisite.

Many years ago we had an extra room in the house that was dedicated to Melmac. We were thought to be nuts...

20. PRobably old wooden yardsticks trying to get enough to use for

wainscoting in my laundry area.
I also collect old non-working alarm clocks. i really like the graphic appeal, and i have them all on a shelf with little signs for different cities. they are all set to 2:06 though. except for the NY one that's set at 9:11.
I collect globes too, and cobalt glass, and old wooden alphabet blocks. and shoe lasts. and canes. and unicorns.

36. Pressed Pennies from the machines at tourist attractions

You know--the thing where you put in 2 quarters and a penny, turn the lever and the penny is embellished with a design.

It started out as just a thing I did, not really for collecting. But then hubby and I realized that they (the machines) were everywhere, they were cheap souvenirs (.51!), and they don't take up alot of room.

We probably have about 2 or 3 dozen by now.

Everytime we go on vacation, we make sure to have a pocket full of quarters and pennies in case we come across any.

We also collect post cards and beer coasters from around the world that we pick up on vacation or from friends/family that have traveled

sometimes you can choose which design you want, mostly, though you're stuck with whatever design they have pre-chosen.

WHen we went to NYC in 98, we got one of the empire state building (I asked the lady there if it's true that a penny would go through someone's head if I dropped it, and she said yes. I said "imagine what a dollar bill would do, then!" and she just looked at me and then looked away). We also go one of WTC buildings as well.

We've got some from Amsterdam and London. Most are domestic. They're neat-o
