I'd like to get into wine. Anyone reccomend any good books for beginners? I don't really want to become an expert I guess, just a little knowledge towards the subject. Thanks!

1. There actually is a "Wine For Dummies" book.
I bought it for my parents, and they say it helped them a lot.

3. I'm not an expert, but I'm learning. I started with this book
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1563054345/qid=1123168222/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_sbs_1/103-7889045-4877467?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

It was great with explaining all the regions and how the wines & classifications worked. Between this, DUer Ramsey and this really amazing Wine Store in Delaware (Krestons) I've become more knowledgeable about what's out there

5. Look for local wine tastings
in your area: restaurants, bars, the local gourmet shops and wine stores will have them also.

Go taste! See what you like.

I've generally observed that people go from sweet or semi-sweet ---> dry.

10. If you don't have any wineries near you, go to a a good restaurant
near you and sit at the bar. Talk to the bartender about wines and get him/her to suggest wines you can buy by the glass to determine if it is something you like. After all "good" wine is wine you like. Also see if there is a liquor store near you with a resident wine expert. We used to have one in the town we lived in, and he was great. We established what we liked and he would make recommendations based on that.
