Today, I had the best day...
My temp job until the end of the month is so fantastic. I think I would find it boring if I were not so politically involved, and interested in social justice but I so love it. After my assignment is over, I am going to see if I can volunteer and do the same thing!

The job is essentially assisting low-income people who are seeking to apply for aid. Helping to make sure their papers are in order and the very complicated forms are filled out correctly. I had to learn everything in 10 minutes, but I am very fast so I picked it up in no time. It is so rewarding, and the fact that these programs are in danger is just shameful. These people live on so little. Contrary to what the Republicans would have you believe, they are nice, normal, well-spoken people, who have just had some bad luck. They could be any of us. I wish this could be full time. It is different than showing up at some rally to protest. It is really, really doing something. What pissed me off was the other person who was working as a temp was very cold and rude to these people, as if they were beneath her. I just wanted to treat them with the utmost respect and with the dignity that they deserved. I got in a little trouble for making small talk with some of the people, but I don't care. Why should I have treated them any different from when I am working with high-end management or clients? Why should they be given the short end of the stick once again? Any of us, through a series of bad things, could be there. The people who want to cut this aid are nothing short of pure evil.

1. That is so great!
And so wonderful of you to continue to do it without being paid.

And, I totally agree with you about bad luck. My dad, who died last August, went through almost $1million in 8 years due to health issues. He sold his house and lived on his SS. God Bless him, he finally went on Medicaid, but the Alzheimer's was so bad, he didn't know that.

Can you imagine? The medical bills were for nursing homes and care that he desperately needed after his stroke. What if he didn't have the money? We would have lost him 8 years sooner.

Thank God for Medicaid is all I can say. Thank God we have it for those who have nothing.

And, I don't care if the occasional 'welfare queen' (thank you Ronnie Reagan) abuses the system if the right people get the help they need. It is better than lining the pockets of the Neocons.

4. Thank you. He was a great, great man
A lifelong lib. and a great dad. He left a wonderful legacy in his children. I hope I am as fortunate.

3. How does that saying go?
There but for the grace of God, go I one day? Some people just don't get it. Good luck on your new job, it sounds very rewarding!
