So you think you don't look that old. |
|
HAVE YOU BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, "SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD?"
I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME. SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 40-ODD YEARS AGO. COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN??
UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT. THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE. HMMM,...OR COULD HE???
AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL.
"YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG," HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.
"WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?" I ASKED.
HE ANSWERED, "IN 1959. WHY DO YOU ASK?"
"YOU WERE IN MY CLASS," I EXCLAIMED.
HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.
THEN, THAT UGLY, OLD WRINKLED SON-OF-A-BITCH ASKED, "WHAT DID YOU TEACH?"

6. Once you are that old you'll know that this is no joke.... |
|
*sigh*
It happens, though. Just saw some pictures lying around from the time when I first met my SO, and I exclaimed "Boy, did you look young then!" Took me awhile to remember that I looked pretty young then, too...

8. We had a get together last summer with some old high school |
|
friends, some of whom I had not seen in 20 years. I thought we looked pretty good for our advanced age, but it was still strange seeing people I saw in my minds eye as 18 in their forties.

10. Isn't it strange? In our mind they're forever young. |
|
And remember their shock when they see us *g* But then I don't go to any kind of reunions anymore. I'm sticking to people who're aging right along with me :)

Recently I took my 82-year-old parents out to lunch at a nearby restaurant. Seated at a table behind us was actor George Lindsay who played Goober on the old Andy Griffith Show back in the 60's. My mom spotted him and pointed him out to me, but my dad's back was to him while we ate. After we got up to leave, my dad turned to me and said, "You two were mistaken. I didn't see "Goober" in there. The only person at the table behind us was an old man."

9. OTOH, my wife and I run into old friends from her high school |
|
and even though I'm no George Clooney, compared to these guys I look great, and so does she compared to the women! its a big ego boost. We're like the most out of shape people possible, but we don't look as old as former classmatess. I dunno why. Not smoking?
