I met a really cool vet last night
And by vet I mean military vet, specifically Vietnam war vet, and one who was a POW at that.

I looked him up too, and sure enough he was legit.

Anyway - total democrat - total anti-bush. Had a sticker on the back of his truck that said "Real vets don't vote for deserters" and had a goofy pic of Bush on the back.

Anyway, thought I'd share.

2. There are quite a few vets out there like that.
My grandfather hated * until the day he died. He called him a slumlord-meaning he didn't improve the properties that he already had control of (US) and was spending money to pick up even more properties that he could run down (Afghanistan, Iraq and whatever else he could get his greedy little hands on). And I've met other vets who felt the same way.

3. I'm sorry I never met your grandfather
What a perfect way to describe W.

The oldest vets I know, survivors of WWII, have been very angry at the way W is plunging us into wars without any apparent planning. This from old school lifelong Republicans, not just Democrats.

4. My grandma is the same way
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 11:51 AM by Taverner
Still alive and kicking at 90, her hubby/my grandpa was an officer in WWII.

He was a republican, but did not like the Bush family back then. He was more of an Olympia Snowe kind of Republican - just keep the government off our back type.

He knew of Prescott Bush's traitorous deeds in pre-war US and so he feared having Bush as VP...

Anyway, grandpa is dead, but she thinks the war in Iraq was a "wicked wicked act."

5. He was a POW.
Airborne Ranger taken at Anzio. He hated *. He believed that we all deserved to be treated w/ respect and as human beings instead of voting numbers-from cradle to the grave.
He gave his health and his career to this country and toward the end I think he felt like he was spit on by the government. He was a college baseball player and had some prospects for a career in baseball(pitcher). He was injured numerous times while fighting on the European front. When he came home he just wanted to live and not dwell on fighting.
He was onery but he had every right to be.

6. I really do think they earned the title "greatest generation"
It has never rung sappy for me - it fits them to a tee.

Men and women from all walks of life ponied up and gave their 110%...

8. I've always thought so too.
And now we are losing them and their stories on how life was for them. And it's pretty obvious that our govt doesn't give a damn about it.

13. i saw vets from the abraham lincoln brigade from the
Spanish Civil War march in that big february 15th protest in NYC. they were getting up there in age , the weather was bitter cold and the cops on horses were feisty..so i was impressed with their showing with all those obstacles.

10. I found out one of my neighbours was a vet the other day
He was in the screming Eagles (101 Airborne, same as my cousin) Also total dem total anti-bush and anti-war. He just went down to the reunion of the unit in Tennessee and told the newbies he supported them in their decision to go to Iraq because they had a deal, and they were being sent. He said that he told them 'if you go a third time though you have no support from me."

That's a great bumper sticker BTW
