The Dukes of Hazzard getting dismal reviews...
From the Rotten Tomatoes site 38 out of 51 reviews are negative. (13 positive??!!)

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dukes_of_hazzard/

And I love this review by Roger Ebert...

"The movie stars Johnny Knoxville, from 'Jackass,' Seann William Scott, from 'American Wedding,' and Jessica Simpson, from Mars. Judging by her recent conversation on TV with Dean Richards, Simpson is so remarkably uninformed that she should sue the public schools of Abilene, Texas, or maybe they should sue her. On the day he won his seventh Tour de France, not many people could say, as she did, that they had no idea who Lance Armstrong was."

Of course it'll probably gross $50 million this weekend...:puke:

I'm watching Smallville now, and I think John Schneider has come a long way.

But I think I'll pass and watch Hugh Hefner's reality show instead, after all it's free...

12. A request from this Southern lady: please, no Southern bashing today.
Unfortunately, there are uneducated, ill-educated and bigoted individuals living in all areas of the country.

But, likewise, as evidenced by DU's fine southern members, there are also intellegent, caring individuals living in all areas of the country as well.

18. Damn straight-- this yankee totally agrees
i've got redneck relatives in the northwoods of Minnesota who are ten times as ignorant as any 'southern' redneck you can produce. and i got court cases to prove it.

ignorance knows no boundaries. nor does redneck-ism, unfortunately.

7. Ebert would make $500 for writing the words "it stinks" on toilet paper.
That aside he's 100% correct and I'd have said the same thing too. :D

10. Let's face it.
Only people who want to see Jessica Simpson will go see this movie.

Why watch a movie based on a television show when you can watch the original show for free on TV?

...the list goes on and on. But the casting was the worst part. It was absolutely atrocious.

Willy Nelson as Uncle Jessie? BURT F!@$#%!ING REYNOLDS as BOSS HOGG? Who was smoking with Willie when they came up with that one?

14. I loved the review on NPR this morning. It was called a non-movie
because there was absolutely nothing there. A 'black hole of celluloid' or something to that effect.

I'd have laid down $10,000 bucks the minute I heard it was being made that it would suck wind.

19. MrCranky's on form about the Dukes as well...
http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/dukesofhazzard.html

The film is so obviously lacking in any positive quality that even discussing it makes me feel like I'm soiling myself.

(snip)

The only thing resembling acting in "The Dukes of Hazzard" is the occasional eyebrow raise. Whenever a character has to convey a strong emotional reaction, inevitably an eyebrow goes up. Given that this film's cast is a veritable support group for the untalented, it's not five minutes into the movie before eyebrows start to fly. The worst offender is Reynolds, who looks like he's celebrating the fact that the Botox wore off from his last remake, "The Longest Yard."

27. The 13 positive is what amazes me.
I know it's bullshit to judge a movie without seeing it, but in this case I'm going to allow myself to do just that. The show sucked so badly that anything based on it MUST suck.

31. A bad movie remake of a submoronic TV show from '79
Someday, people are gonna rent the DVD, make popcorn, get very drunk on tequilla, and riff on it like Joel and the 'bots on MST3K.

The subject for intoxicated debate will be "Does this rise to the sheer level of awfulness of the seminal "Plan Nine From Outer Space" by Ed Wood, or is it merely an homage to bad and utterly pointless filmmaking? And will the "stars" leave it off their resumes?"

Meanwhile, somewhere, somebody will start a fan club, while in Hollywood, there will be talk of a sequel.

33. I just saw it at 12 in NYC
my hubby loved the TV show. I had never seen it. I lived in NC for 15 years. He's lived in NC from age 10 to age 36 (when we moved to NYC).

I too had read the reviews. I personally have seen many many more movies that were much much worse. While not an Oscar contender by any means, it was not as bad as the reviews made it out to be. Let's put it this way... I'd rather see this movie again than be subjected to "The English Patient" again.

I didn't find that the movie in any way glorified the South. It was just a popcorn movie. I'd give it a C-. My hubby enjoyed it. Jessica Simpson may have a nice body, but her face looks like a man's.

My favorite line: "You couldn't win an election even if your brother were the governor and fixed it for you!"

:hide:

I totally agree. She's man faced if ever there was a man faced sort. Jennifer Aniston, another manface. Shave the hair, remove the make up....it's a man, man!

I kind of have a manface myself, LOL--just keepin' it real.
