Your pets - are they 'givers' or 'takers'
Givers are like my cat Abbott - he gives so much freaking love that I just call his name and he comes running to me. He rubs his head all over me, kneeds me and he comes to me for snuggling even while I sleep.

Evita; however, is a taker. She takes and takes and never ever wants to give back. If I'm allowed to pet her it's only when SHE is in the mood for it, which is rarely and even then she'll let me have about 5 minutes and then she's bored and leaves. I call her name and she totally ignores me and the only time she demands my attention is when her food dish is empty in the morning. She hates being held, she hates snuggling and never once has she rubbed her head up against me to show her love.

So I guess the two of them equal out.

So are your pets 'givers' or 'takers'

2. Two total givers, one more moderate but leans giver.
The one who's not so much a giver is only that way because she's half the size of the other two male cats and tends to get crowded out a lot. If I go and seek her out she'll become the same way she used to be when I had only her. One male is my wife's and the other one is a stray who just acted as though we were his humans the moment we moved into our last apartment, so adopting him was a no-brainer.

3. The late, lamented Ace-the-cat was a total giver.
He loved people, dogs, everything except other cats.
He also loved skinks, snakes, birds, and squirrels, but as prey, not buddies.
;-)

The also late (and not QUITE as lamented) Nasha-the-dog was affectionate, but high maintenance. Mainly because of her hysterical reaction to rain and thunderstorms. She couldn't help it, but could be very destructive to her surroundings in her panic. Pore ol' dog.
:-(

11. Same here. Two doors.
She was a German Shepherd we adopted when she was 2 1/2.
Her previous owners had made her an outside dog. They both worked, so we figure she was alone in the back yard for many big thunderstorms (Pensacola).

We tried everything.
I got a CD of thunderstorms sounds and played it for days, hoping to acclimate her. The recording didn't bother her one whit, but the real thing did.

Got a videotape of dog massage methods (I know, I know, but we were desperate.) that was 'almost' guaranteed to whip the storm aversion. No soap.
Good luck.

14. Your dog probably smells the ozone.
I thought seriously of getting tranquilizers for our German Shepherd/Collie mix.
We had limited success with putting a blanket over her ears.
We finally got a crate for her, but it's not the easiest thing to move a resisting 90lb dog.
Charlie's recently gone almost totally deaf. Sounds awful, but it's almost a relief.

4. My dog is both
Stella is a super dog. She takes me for walks and gives me health. She is such a clown, she gives me loads of laughs. She also takes the piss a lot too-we are having a barking problem, and it's taking a long time to work it out (Her: Bark! Bark! Bark! Me: No Bark! Good Nobark Her: bark! Me No Bark. Go to your sofa. Down Good down) It's tedious and repetative, but she's really sure, knows I'm not going to beat her or yell at her now, and she MAY get a treat. So it's working. She's giving me much more cooperation-Like she did *right* now.

5. all of the animals I ever had in 52 years were givers. I am a better
human being because of them. I would be different otherwise. Truly.

8. Takers are not bad pets
There's just some that aren't as affectionate as others but you don't love them anyless. I probably spend 10times more snuggling with Abbott but those moments with Evita are just amazing. She can be adorable when she puts her mind to it

12. Eleanor is a giver.
She has no threshhold for petting and lovins. Coleman, on the other hand, is a major taker. He's the biggest attention-craver I have ever seen, but if you try to pet him, all he wants to do is attack (he's only playing, though).

13. Molly is a giver, Rogue is a little of both.
Molly is the biggest lover dog I've ever had. She's always up for a snuggle, and loves to sleep on me. Rogue likes to snuggle, but only on her terms. She hates it when I just go up and hug her unannounced.

15. Oops is mostly a taker
He's kind of demanding and pretty insistent about what he wants. The exception is when I don't feel well - then he's a total giver, climbing up on the sofa or bed with me and snuggling. It's very comforting and he'll stay with me for hours without asking for anything whereas normally, he's in and out and up and down and wanting a drink or some food or some pets or a treat or someone to play with.

I love him. :loveya:
