I heard the Matrix sucked. Is it true? |
|
People are telling me the Matrix was kind of disappointing.
Is this true? What happens?
You can tell me what happened cause I'm not going to be able to watch it anyway...
If you reply with a spoiler please state on your 'subject' so other people won't get pissed. :-)

Matrix was awesome. Whoever says it sucked has something wrong with them, and are just saying it to be different. I might go see it again.

If the first matrix is a 10, i would give 2 a 7 and 3 a 4.
The story is minimal and uninteresting.

Some funnier lines in the third, but the phony emotion and score was even worse.

6. I thought it sucked 'spoilers' |
|
It starts off OK. Morpheus, Trinity, and Seraph force the Merovingian to release Neo from his coma. Neo visits the Oracle, who's replacement just isn't the same, and she tells him nothing. Neo leaves the matrix. Smith shows up and absorbs the Oracle. Neo and Trinity take one ship and head for the machine city, Smith in the human's (Vane?) stows away and burns out Neo's eyes before he can be killed. Morpheus, Niobe and the others head back to Zion,in order to save them just in time from the invading machines. The invasion probable took twenty minutes or so, I thought wasn't well done at all. Neo and Trinity fight their way to the machine city and crash into it, Trinity is killed in the crash. Neo speaks to the head machine, and offers to kill Smith (who has apparently become a threat to the machines) in exchange for peace with Zion. The machines agree and Zion is saved. Again. Neo reenters the Matrix and everyone has been absorbed by Smith. Neo and Smith fight. Smith wins. Smith absorbs Neo, and the new Smith explodes. All the other Smiths explode. No explanation given. Back in the real world, Neo is dead and is carried away by the machines like he's the lead singer for Creed. Cut to the Matrix, the Oracle and the Architect are sitting on a park bench exchanging pleasentries and watching a sunrise.
The End.

I see why it sucked but I like the type of ending. Except for the cheesy stuff.

10. Oh, the ending was pure cheese. |

The final fight seen was good. Clearly inspired by Dragonball Z, just like the first movie. But the last two mintues couldn't have ruined a movie more if it had Jar Jar.

9. My Daugther Thought it Was the Best One of the Three |
|
She's 13 and real Matrix freak. I thought it was the logical outcome of the first two. Satisying, interesting, and visually amazing, although some things could have been better.
If you saw the first two and enjoyed them, definitely go see this one. Like the others, you might have done some things differently but will come away with some indelible impressions and some questions to ponder.
They also left the door open for a sequel.

11. The plot was unimaginative and weak. |
|
The special effects were astounding.
That said, basically I *expected better*. More creativity. More imagination. A tad more logic... open cockpits for the "mech suits"... ridiculous. Sentinels flying in really cool looking bird patterns rather than simply overwhelming everything there like they did to the central tower in the Dock... ridiculous.
Too much of that Disneyesque "little Bobby saves the day just in time" silliness. (And for all of his "I'm trying to save Zion" bluster, the General didn't even have the forsight to install a few EMP devices *IN* Zion?) (as an aside, electronics can be "hardened" to withstand EMP bursts using good old 21st century technology... are the machines really that stupid?)
I was disappointed that I was expected to take the first two movies at face value. That there really wasn't any cleverness to the story at all. Hell, I was more entertained by fan speculation than I was by this movie.
I was disappointed that Neo's *real life psychic powers* weren't even addressed beyond and allusion by the Oracle to "the source". Hogwash. They might as well have evoked *magic*.
In the end the W brothers simply failed to write an interesting script.
How many times do I need to watch "bullet-time"? How many times do I need to watch hundreds of bullets fired without hitting anyone? How many times can I *STAND* watching Keanu try to act?
Too much silliness like the "Machine Mind" using Sentinels to form its face while it "confronted" Neo... WTF? Did we not see this effect *TWICE* in The Mummy movies?
Recycled, rehashed, philoso-babble("Because I *choose* to"????), and quite simply uninspired.
In the end the W brothers just couldn't live up to the hype.

12. wait until it comes out on DVD |
|
before passing judgement
I never saw the second one in the theaters. But if I did, I'm sure I would have hated it. But after I got to watch it a couple of times on DVD, I could really appreciate the movie.
I'm sure it'll be the same for Revolutions.

15. Well I won't be purchasing the DVD trilogy |
|
But I'd like to watch it all in one sitting, especially with those Reanimation cartoons that I didn't see.
//I'm sure it'll be the same for Revolutions.// Doubtful, given that I have seen all three movies(the first 2 several times now)and watching it again won't create what is missing.
Like I said, the most disappointing thing was that they simply weren't able to create something *clever*. You can only hide for so long behind the wicked cool special effects.
Oh, and why in the world did the power cut out for the ship Trinity and Neo were in when it went above the cloud layer? WTF? I can buy that perhaps the Sentinels ran off of some sort of transmitted power, but didn't the Zion ships have their own power supplies?
And Neo can use his powers to bring Trinity back with just one wound but not multiple, coincidently not immediately fatal, injuries? And since when do people not go into *SHOCK*? Bleh.

19. Answers to your questions |

because the electrical storms that make up the blackened sky fried the ship (which also accounts for why the machines didn't go in after them).
The One fatal injury occured within the Matrix where he can inlfuence things by re-writing the code. The accident on the ship occured in the real world where he doesn't have that power.
And she did go into shock, how else do you think she talked to him with three giant poles sticking through her chest

//because the electrical storms that make up the blackened sky fried the ship (which also accounts for why the machines didn't go in after them).// Did they show any actual lightning strikes? I didn't get that from the scene, but it went by pretty quickly. Again, however, good ole 20th century technology can cope with lightning strikes on aircraft.
//The One fatal injury occured within the Matrix where he can inlfuence things by re-writing the code.// Damn, now I'm gonna have to go back and watch them again... I thought Neo brought Trinity back at some point.
//The accident on the ship occured in the real world where he doesn't have that power.// Well, he did bring himself back, didn't he? I can buy that he didn't have adequate control of his psychic powers at that point... it just seemed incongruous is all.
//And she did go into shock, how else do you think she talked to him with three giant poles sticking through her chest// You ever see anyone in shock? They tend to do more than just lay quietly and reminisce. They tend to shiver and be incoherent. I'm just glad to see that she didn't linger much past her lines...
I know I'm being mean now, but, dammit I was expecting something better.
Oh well... maybe Star Wars 3 will suck really bad, too, and drive it from my mind.

Given the nature of the hovercraft a direct lightning strike (which they showed) on the cuplinks (or whatever they are) that would likely fry on it, and considering that those ships were intended for dubterranian use only they probably did not anticipate that being a problem
Neo did bring trinity back from the dead within the Matrix by removing the bullet from her at the end of reloaded. In the real world though his psychic/energy powers cannot change a physical reality of metal spikes piercing a human body. She borought him back at the end of the first movie through love and he being the one, and he she at the end of the second through love and he being the one. Both of those deaths occured inside the Matrix though and not in the real world where they both died at the end of Revolutions
Perhaps there was extreme adrenaline rush that calmed her enough to keep her somewhat lucid. However, given that this is a movie and death speeches are very common it is a slight break from reality, but then again it is a movie and not real life.

13. I loved the first one and the second one |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 12:31 PM by khephra
I sat through the second and kept on wondering, "What the hell was everyone's problem with this? I love it!"
And I didn't think the dialogue was cheesy in the second one. The philosophical musings made the film for me. I personally think some people really don't "get it" and complain about it because of that.
(Of course, everyone here "got it". DUers are quite brilliant. ;-) I'm sure people here disliked it for good reasons. )

14. The dialogue was ass. |
|
A lot of the lines you would expect to see more in an Arnold movie than the Matrix.
Was it entertaining? Yes, but God did I want to hurt Keanu Reeves. He did well in the first one because all he had to do was act like he didn't know what was going on. Now he has to act like he knows what's going on and it's horrible.
And the conclusion was, yes, pretty damn bad. Although not NEARLY as bad as Trinity's long, drawn out and pretty much useless scene toward the end.

But the vampires in the mexican bar at the end was too much, oh wait, that's a whole other film.

But I loved the series to begin with, cared about the characters and plot.
There is a little less discussion of philosophy, though it is still there in spades (much of it takes the form of imagry and action rather than being said in words). The Zion fight scene is impressive, and should keep anyone who cares about the series interested. The Smith/Neo Fight to the death is a mite overdone until the end when much of their first fights in the Matrix are alluded to and we find out the final portions of the the Smith/Neo dichotomy.
I liked it, but then I've gotten the other two on levels that most have not. Please try and remember though that Reloaded and Revolutions are intended to be seen as one film, and not two.

I basically only see movies at the theatre that have great special effects because they look much better on screen than on my tv. This didn't disappoint. Go see it yourself its only 8 bucks. Definitely entertaining.

26. Entertaining, but definitely does nothing for your brain |
|
The action scenes are neat--much of the dialogue and acting is lousy.
But the art direction on the machine city, for example, was particularly well-done. I never really liked the dimestore "philosophy" of the Matrix, I jsut liked the fight scenes.
