I attempted to watch "Alexander" this weekend.... |
|
...it was so fucking boring & horrible that I turned it off and switched to "American's Next Top Model"
Stone was doing something seriously wacked when he made that movie. You'd think with the amazing cast he had that this movie would have soared at the Box Office. But who would have thought to have Angelina Joile as Colin Ferral's mom. She's only like 1 years older than Ferral in real life - give me a fricking break. At least in Troy they brought in a legendary screen beauty like Julia Christie to play Brad Pitt's mom. I'm sure that Stone could have done the same in this movie.
Save yourself the money and DON'T rent this movie unless you have issues with sleep - it'll put you out in about 10 minutes flat!

1. Sadly, I must agree with you... |

I was SO looking forward to this movie! The greatest historical gay (OK, I know customs were different back then) man ever, one of my favorite directors, and *gasp, pant* Colin Ferrel...not to mention Angelina, Sir Anthony Hopkins, etc. And it managed to be borrrrring. What a waste! For some insane reason, Stone decided to START with Alexander's death, and then "Forty Years Later" flashed on the screen. After that the movie went downhill. Major bummer. (One bright spot: Great 'nad shot of Colin from the rear, taken as he's going to bed!)
:boring:

3. Colin's rear was the only good thing about that movie. |

2. I like historical drama epics, so it didn't put me to sleep...BUT |

Stone had Colin Farrell crying too much in the movie. If it wasn't for the narration, you would think Alexander lost the 2 major battles that were shown in the movie.
There was so much that could've been in the movie that would've made it better. Watching the 3 hour documentary on the History Channel was much more informative.
The acting from Jolie and Farrell was over the top. The dialogue reminded me of the old biblical movies from the 50's. There were too many flashback scenes, but I understand why Stone did it that way. He was trying to show some parallels between the events happening in the "present" and Alexander's past.
I wouldn't watch it again.

4. I agree, Lynne. This movie bored me after a while. |
|
Never, in a million years, would I have thought that an Oliver Stone film, with Colin Farrell AND Jared Leto could be "boring". But..."Alexander" was, sadly, exactly that. There was a point where I was thinking "ok, when are we going to get to Alexander's death?"
I don't know what happened to this film. But I'm glad I only paid the $3.00 to rent the DVD.
