A prank? What the hell was this kid thinking?
Sleepover Prank Lands 2 Boys In Hospital With Burns

"A sleepover prank ended Friday with two teenagers rushed to the hospital with burns, Akron police reported.

Three 14-year-old boys were having a sleepover on West Miller Avenue.

Officers said that the boys decided to play a joke on the first person who fell asleep.

After the first person nodded off, one boy put water into the microwave for several minutes. He then attempted to pour the scalding water onto the back of the boy who was sleeping, police said.

The other boy stepped in to stop him and he got splashed with the hot water in his face
Two boys were taken to Children's Hospital for treatment of the burns.

Charges are pending in the case.

14 years old? You would think he would have known better than to pour scalding water on someone. I had more sense at the age of 5.

2. Depends on how "scalding."
Sounds like an ice-down-the-back type prank gone awry.

4. No, this was much much worse. That water was probably boiling.

And these kids were 14. They know better. Or they should.

6. It probably wasn't.
That's probably why the kid didn't think it was that hot.

10. Well it was obviously hot enough that they had to be treated for burns.

Microwaves do not heat water the same way that a stove would.

15. Obviously the kid wanted it to be hot.
That's the joke. Pour hot water down somebody's sleeping bag and piss them off.

YOu are thinking maybe this kid wanted to send his friend to the hospital?

Darwin candidates must have removed themselves from the gene pool, so to speak.

16. If he keeps this up
he will remove himself shortly...

I saw one at a local hardware store last week. The parents were standing in the checkout line while their 4-5 year old was busily amusing himself by triggering the automatic door and racing around to the side that was sliding to try and catch it with his hands....fortunately he was a lot slower than the door.

btw: I tried to distract him and refocus his attention...it was successful up to the time I walked out...after that ??????????

5. Liquids heated in a microwave...
...can be especially nasty business, apparently. There was a report of one of the news magazine shows about how liquids can become so super-heated in a microwave that if you touch the liquid with a cold spoon it will cause the liquid to explode into the air. According to the report, some people would keep heating water, for example, expecting it to come to a boil. The more they heated it the more "explosive" it would become.

13. I burned my finger on some curry yesterday
just by pouring it, and getting a drop on the very tip. It was incredibly hot on the outer ring, the inside was 'warm'

This kid is lucky they didn't have something thicker like cheese or peanut butter handy, otherwise there would have been some severe burns.

17. Stupid? Yes, but charges? No frigging way..
14 years old is defined as a "child" for a reason. Kids do stupid things all the time, add this one to the list.

18. Yes, kids do stupid things. That's what kids do.
I wonder what the prosecutor's excuse for being stupid is.

20. They should be punished by their parents.
They should've known better, though.
