My daughter learned a new song at school |
|
from another friend. (They're both 6 years old.) "Boys go to Jupiter to make them stupid-ter." "Girls go to college to get more knowlege."
She sings the song to me and I tell her it's cute. Then she sings it to her brother, who's 8, and he pushes her.
I told my daughter, maybe she should only sing the song with her friends and I tell my son not to push his little sister.
Let the "Battle of the Sexes" begin!!! ;-)

1. And I bet you wonder why they don't get along sometimes? |
|
Tell her maybe, tell him no. When you know the song offends him. You may not see what your doing, but I bet your son does.
Just my two cents.

12. I didn't tell her maybe... |
|
I told her to sing it with her friends at school.
Sometimes they get along sometimes they don't. They're sibblings and they're still kids. They're only 20 months apart and they're still fighting over mom's lap.
All in all they're good kids and they truly love each other, they just don't show it all the time. :-)

8. I asked my girls to not sing that song |
|
We discussed it and why sexism is wrong. We talked about what the boys were singing and how it made them feel. And that making fun of others is wrong.
They probably still sang it but not around me.

10. Young children's teasing is inevitable |
|
and should not be made a major issue with them, but adults should never encourage it as being acceptable. The ability to experience empathy and compassion begin in childhood, and the foundation for these crucial civilizing emotions is laid by the adults whom a child respects.
It is a stunningly small step from these mild teasings to the taunting that generates Columbine killers and later to adult rascism and sexism.
By allowing your daughter to sing a deregatory taunt to her brother and not suffer repercussions, and by not allowing your son to defend his ego and dignity, you have on a subconscious level affirmed that he is not your daughter's equal. (And I do in every way support equal rights for women.)

13. Wow! You guys are really taking this |
|
seriously!! I only posted it because I thought it was kinda funny! And that the battle of the sexes begin so early. And I don't think my children will grow up to killers, racists or sexist!
My daughter didn't taunt him and I only told him not to push or hit his sister; which he shouldn't do regardless of what she says.
