What size pants does my wife wear???
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 06:09 PM by 4_Legs_Good
She's a 6P in whateverthehell system 6P comes into. Men's pants usually come in waist and inseam sizes.

And what the hell is the "rise" measurement?

I love buying my wife clothes she'll refuse to wear!

Edit: I mean what does 6P tanslate into as far as Waist, Inseam and Rise? I know I'll probalby have to actually measure, though. Hmmm...

:)

1. I think the "P" is for "petite"
Must be nice! I haven't been a petite since the Johnson Administration!

have you grown taller since the Johnson years???

... pants she hasn't tried on. What are you, some kind of nut with a death wish? :) :) :)

I think the P is "petite".

8. Oh I'm nuts to be sure
Most people think it's crazy to buy my wife clothes, but if I don't she'll never get them herself. I try to get her to push some boundries that usually turn out really well, but that she won't do on her own.

Yes, I'm evil and have a death wish too!

:)

4. Buy them a size too small and she'll love you.
Buy them a size too big and you'll sleep on the sofa for a week. :7

It means she's a size 6 petite. The rise measures how high up the waist the waistband is relative to the crotch seam.

If she's an even size, (6) she likely has rounder hips. If she's an odd size, she likely has straighter hips.

14. My real question (poorly presented) is how does 6P translate
into real measurements? I wanna buy her some pants that come in Waist, inseam and rise measurements, but not in the ol' reliable 6P.

Yup on the round hips, and thanks for the advice! :)

5. 6P is six petite.
She must be about 5'4"
I'm the same size so let me give you some hints about buying her pants. Find out the pair of pants that she seems to like the most or wear the most. Shop for that brand because sizes and lengths vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Buy it and keep the receipt, just in case...
Good luck!

6. Here's how you do it
Get a cloth tape measure. Drink some nice wine with her. Initiate harmless bondage play with tape measure. Take some measurements. REMEMBER THE NUMBERS! (this is the hard part)

Clothing catalogs usually have charts that give sizes for certain measurements. You already know she's a Petite - after this little exercise, you'll have more info. And you'll have a good time getting it.

You can thank me later.

However, those size charts in the catalogues are not accurate. That shouldn't stop you from having fun with the tape measure, though.

20. Not necessarily.
That might be true for Liz Clairborn -- I find her pants too short for me. However, most have a 28" inseam. Some have 29" -- those are the ones I look for.
Inseam and rise are two different things. I presumed you meant inseam by the number used.

32. Very different.. rise is the distance
from crotch to waist...inseam is length from hem to crotch..

If the pants are "low-rise", they could be everything from a true hiphugger, or just slightly below waistline..

also some people liek to wear their pants lower than others..

Pants are very difficult to buy for someone else:)

19. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate into any CONSISTENT
measurement of waist, inseam, and rise.

Size vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even with different styles/cuts from the same manufacturer.

6P means 6 petite. Your best bet is to peek at the labels in her favorite pairs of pants and get the same size from that maker.

22. But I don't like the same maker
:)

I want her to try something different!

Can I find a pair of pants that fit her well and then measure various parts of them? Is inseam on the inside or outside (crotch or outer leg).

This is stupid stuff I should know.

/embarassed/

23. Yes.
You could do that - measure the pants, and then take the measurements to the store. The inseam measured from the crotch to the hem. To measure the waist, button/zip the pants, lay flat, measure and double. Same with the hips.

27. Oh, and if the pants are flared...
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 06:32 PM by 4_Legs_Good
Is it just a straight linear measurement (the inseam), or does it take into account the flare? Does that make sense?

31. Lay the pants flat with the inseam in the center.
Measure along that seam and you should be fine - whether the legs are flared or straight won't make any difference.

26. That should work
Just use the size 6 petite as a guide and your measurements to double check the fit to her body.

To get the accurate measurement of the rise take a tape and run it from the front waist between the legs and up to the back waist.

Here's a handy petite chart you may like. :hi:

33. The inside
The inseam is the measurement from the crotch to the cuff, along the inside seam. I'm not a taylor so someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure about that.

41. A friend in the business told me...
one of the reasons it's cheaper to manufacture in Asia is they cut more cloth at a time, to save money, and as the blade cuts through the stack of material, it is pushed out, so the pieces at the bottom of the stack are larger than the cloth at the top. That's why 2 pairs of slacks labeled the same size are very different. The slacks made from the pieces at the bottom are really closer to an eight than a six.
Good for the plump one's that can say they wear a six. Not so for the slim one's that everything is too big on.

21. Buy her a gift certificate...
Sometimes women have to try on SEVERAL pairs of pants (all the same 'size' to find a comfy pair)..

or if there's a pair in the closet that she likes and looks good in, "borrow" them to use as a template.

25. Size 6p here and ....
for jeans, I am usually safe with 28waist, 28inseam and a med rise.

It really depends on the type of pants and the manufacturer as someone said.

37. FORGET THE PANTS, go with a silky camisole.
With lace. She'll love it. Just check her bra size and take it to the store. If you have access to Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, or JCrew, you are golden. Otherwise, throw yourself on the mercy of the JC Penney's ladies. They are nice, and they will help you.

What you are looking for looks like lingerie, ie. silky, lacy, and yes, it is outer wear. She can wear it under a sweater or a jacket, or... not. :)

Truth to tell.

38. Likely a 24 inch waist. P stands for petite (short inseam)
rise is the measurement from the middle of the back waist, down between the legs to the middle of the front waist.
