My true squid encounter story

One time I was snorkling and six squid got right in my face. They lined themselves in a perfect horizontal row with their tentacles straight out, and stared at me.

Then they disappeared, and I snorkled some more. Then all of a sudden they were lined up in front of me again all in a row, but with their tentacles identically spread out like so:



Then they disappeared again, and a few minutes later I turned around and they were lined up in front of me with their tentacles positioned like this:



They stared at me like that for a while. Then they went off and came back doing this with their tentacles a few minutes later, in perfect formation:



Then they left and came back and did this:



If I tell this story in person, I do the hand signals to show what they looked like, and people laugh because I look stupid. :eyes: But I'm telling you, I swear the little buggers were trying to communicate with me!!! Squid are smart!

What do those signs mean?

I love seeing squid when I go diving. You really don't see them often, I guess it is all in where you are but seeing them is always really cool. Usually there are quite a few of them and it is just fun to watch them whiz by.
