And then there was that ethics thing. You know, about holding your clients privileged information hirer than anything else.....

You know, to preserve the integrity of the profession...

So in our Auditing class we started to talk about Ethics. The question arose what should you do if you discover that your client is polluting in violation of EPA rules....

Well, first you should tell them you are aware of the situation....

Next, you should advise them to stop....

If they refuse, you either stay with the audit or, recuse yourself and walk away, keeping that information privileged to protect the profession....

That is when I decided I could make enough money just doing taxes and some small auditing....

Couldn't abide by that.....

I hope things have changed i the last twenty years or so...

But from the looks of Enron and all the rest, I doubt it....

9. there are a few things i don't agree with in my profession.

especially some of the quasi-legal ways we (the firm) tries to minimize someone's taxes. i usually complain and will sometimes put a note in the file about how i don't agree but end up doing it.

i guess in the situation you described i would be an anonymous whistle blower.

i am studying for audit now and IT IS HARD!!! and it sucks. i am not an auditor and don't plan to be. i shouldn't have to take this part. what if i swear i will never do any of it. i wonder if they would let me off the hook.

I graduated from Robert Morris College (Or as we called it "Accounting U", 90% of its graduates were Accounting majors) in 1981 but I decided to go to Law School instead. I've passed the BAR but one of these days I need to take the CPA exam to see if I can pass it.
