NYC Radio Station To End 'Smackfest' Promotion (Women Slapping Other Women
:eyes:

<snip>

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Women in New York City will no longer be able to win concert tickets and other prizes from a radio station by violently slapping each other.

WQHT Hot-97 has agreed to end its "Smackfest" promotion over concerns raised by New York's state athletic commission.

From April of last year through January, Hot-97 sponsored a series of 24 slapping competitions. The hip-hop station offered cash prizes of as much as $5,000 to the winners. Pictures of the women striking each other were run on the station's Web site. The station has agreed to pay $240,000 under a settlement reached with the state.

WQHT is the same station that drew heavy criticism earlier this year when staffers played a parody song mocking victims of last year's tsunami.

1. What? They actually got women to participate in this?
1. Stupid idea, very demeaning. Why not have men duking it out too, or does that not "fuel the fantasy"? :eyes:

2. What does it say about people willing to do things like this? I guess it says they're desperate for a better life, but damn...
