Are jeans easy to get tailored? And what's the deal with long inseams???
I'm shopping for jeans for my 5'2.5" wife, and it's almost impossible to find an inseam on a cute pair of jeans that's less than 32"!!! (I'm trying to buy at bebe, which is really cute, but I guess made for women of supermodel height).

Anyway, I am 6'2" and only have a 34" inseam. Maybe there's some anatomical differences involved, and I guess heels are a given. Still have all women grown like 10 inches in the last few years???

Anyway, is it easy to get jeans tailored? it seems like denim would be difficult to work with, but what the hell do I know?

1. I feel her pain
at 5'1" on one leg and 5'2.5" on the other, I've given up on finding pants that fit...sometimes I get lucky, but otherwise, I hem them myself. Jeans, I wear 'em long and baggy... :)

2. Anyplace that does alterations should be able to do it
but if the pants are cut for much taller women they probably won't look right. You might need to get her jeans someplace else to get a pair that fit well.

Buying pants sucks when you're short.

3. Look for "petite" sizes
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 12:51 PM by supernova
The inseam in petite clothes is usually about 28". I know because I'm always looking at petite clothes; I'm 5' 0".

edit: I like BeBe too, but I've never found anything inthere that wasn't made for a 13 year old.

5. That's what my wife says
which is why *I* have to buy them for her - she won't do it for herself. They do have stuff that looks really cute on her when she finally does wear it.

Plus I think the 30s are the new teens - at least I hope they are!

:)

4. Yes, they can be tailored to fit. Ask the store, they may even do it

themselves. Nordstrom's does. And they have lots of cute jeans. I have things altered all the time.

You are such a thoughful hubby. :)

on edit: One problem may be if the alteration distorts the line of the jean, if they are flared or boot cut.

6. I have the opposite problem - a 36" inseam.
Very hard to find in a typical store which stocks up to 34" length pretty heavily. If I go to a Big & Tall store it's not much better - the waists are all too big (I take a 34-36 waist depending on the brand of pants).

Do they make off-the-rack clothes that actually fit anybody?

8. ha ha (whimper sniff)
I used to need 36's but age, weight and gravity have allowed me to be able to wear a more "normal" length now.

10. That's how I am actually
It's hard, but not impossible, to find a waist size that's not too short or a length that's not too big in the waist.

I guess all women are supposed to be 5'6" and all men are supposed to be 5'9".

7. If they're all cotton,
washing them might bring them right into line.

You have a short inseam for such a tall guy. I'm only 5'6" and I have a 34" inseam. But, I wear men's jeans, because they fit better.

9. Lands End and I believe Levis will make custom jeans for you.
And they're not really that expensive.

I find that I can buy "cropped" versions of some jeans and pants that are actually the right length for my leg.
