Jennifer Wilbank's bridal registry still up at Macy's. Does this seem exce
ssive?

I mean, she is 32, I would think she probably already has a lot of the stuff. I can see where everyone would have to have a 111.00 Gravy boat and it would be truly embarrasing to have a Gravy boat without a 60.00 Gravy boat stand. I guess a 250.00 Waterford Crystal Ice bucket and a 225.00 Waterford Crystal Pitcher would be necessary for 4th of July backyard BBQs. I've changed my mind, I think this is the kind of person that really really needs to be surrounded by these things. I just wonder if she'll actually buy anything herself with the 500,000 dollars if it doesn't get bought for her?

1. Conspicuous Consumption
Sickening isn't it?

Though I can't really talk. If GameStop and Best Buy had bridal registries, I'd be the greediest chick on the planet. :P

2. Even though I think she is a loon, I don't
see the big deal. If people will buy it, why not? I registered for some things that I could've done without, and I certainly didn't get all of them either like I am sure she won't.

6. I have to say that I would be totally embarrased to have a registry like
that.
If I were poor, I'd probably have poor friends and would be embarrased to ask them to buy stuff like that.
If I were well off, I'd be embarrassed to ask people to buy things for me that I could go out and afford myself.

7. I wouldn't be embarrassed. I have some
friends who aren't that well off and some who are very well off. People get you what they can, if anything at all. I never said I expected people to buy me all of the stuff on my registry, but I did get some expensive things. That amount of money would have probably been spent anyway, at least it went to something I wanted. I also had some very affordable stuff on my registry. But every girl I know has had some crazy expensive stuff on there not really expecting to get ALL of it.

5. I believe the Gravy boat and stand was bought for her after the ordeal.
I don't remember it being bought before.

8. I personally think bridal registries are the height of tackiness anyway
Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of marriage is not to get lots of nice gifts. Also contrary to popular belief, the people you invite to your wedding should be your friends and family, who know you well enough to know what a good gift for you should be, not everyone you've ever met since grade school. And also contrary to popular belief, it is extremely rude and classless to solicit gifts - a gift is, by definition, something that is given out of generosity not obligation or duress.
