So far - what has been the best album of this decade (2000-2005) |
|
Hands down it has to be "American Idiot" by Green Day. Our children will be listening to that album the way I still listen to Led Zeppelin 2 even though I was only 3 when the album was first released

2. YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT, Wilco |
|
It captures this decade's sadness and unsettled nature with a hint of hope.
Green Day is in the top five but doesn't have quite the emotional hooks that Wilco has.

3. Not exactly music for the masses... |

but I can't get enuff of The Decemberists' "Picaresque." "American Idiot" is perfect for when I'm at the gym - there's actually a guy who wears an "I Miss Reagan" t-shirt. American Idiot!

Bush is so bad that he actually makes people miss Reagan. Then again, maybe not.

like cock of the walk, reads the Washington Times, and changes the TVs to Faux "News." I'd say "what a cliche," but I guess I'm just as bad in my MoveOn t-shirt and latest copy of The Nation. LOL

8. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus". |
|
And Sigur Ros, "Ágætis Byrjun". Compared to these two (or to about ten others I can think of), Green Day aren't in it.

Or, if you want something a little less experimental, Bright Eyes' "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning". Indie folk and songwriting at its finest.

Followed by Hobosapiens by John Cale and Tepid Peppermint Wonderland by Brian Jonestown Massacre (even if it is greatest hits, sort of).
Edited to get the name RIGHT

20. System Of A Down's "Toxicity" gets my vote |
|
I was having a hard time deciding between that, Lateralus, Frances The Mute, and a bunch of others, but I think this is easily the best album from the MTV "nu metal" scene.
