I was watching the news last night and I was amazed...
Some school districts outside my state are already starting school!

What has gottne into these districts? You don't start school until the last two weeks of August at the earliest?

Seriously, WTF?

10. the ones that start that early get a 3 week spring break
and a week off in the fall, around October, I think.

My friends who have the 3 week spring break absolutely love it.

2. Perhaps these school districts are lengthening
their school year...and they want to be done by Christmas....

Just a thought...

Anybody else have any ideas?

6. Slow phasing out of the idea of summer vacation?
Not likely, I guess. I keep hoping.

Perhaps they have rough winters and don't want kids in school until July to make up the missed winter days.

5. Some start dates on the Coast in the South are due to...
hurricanes. They start early just in case a hurricane hits later and they are forced to extend the school year due to lost days for a hurricane. Atleast that is how it was when I went to school on the Coast.

7. Maybe they're year-round?

Some of the school districts around mine are year-round, and the kids typically only get July off in the summer. Of course, they also get all of December off and all of April off, so it works out.

9. Our first day of school was August 5. I expect schools in our district
will be starting in July and then June before too much longer. :(

14. In Wisconsin...
Schools are literally forbidden by law from starting before September 1st unless they get specail permission from the state.

The UW system is not allowed to start classes until after Labor Day.

16. Some in Indiana start earlier, too.
I don't remember exactly why, but I think it's so they could get out early to help with farming? Ask Briarius, he'd know for sure...
