What will be the last straw that has you seriously considering Canada?
(if you haven't already)

For me, a number of things but I thought of one as I'm listening to the Malloy archive of last night's show: the freeper gun dealer who just walked for killing the anti-war gun dealer, if he becomes touted as some folk hero (with his own talk show, book tour, y'know, the winger package), this will DEFINITELY not be America anymore!

1. Canada
Has about the same amount of gun owners per capita.

They just don't fucking kill each other with them like Americans do.

Go figure.

2. Is that handguns or rifles?
I don't have the stats but I always thought the US is the king of handgun ownership. Am I wrong?

3. If Katherine Harris wins in FL
it is back to the great white north for this former mountie (OK, only my toon alter-ego was a mountie, but I did grow up near Canada).

4. Compulsion to show government issued ID papers if I leave the house.
Mandatory tracking device in my vehicle.
Martial law - can't leave my house.

Any individual or combination of the above regs would make me get out of this country.

6. The anti-war dealer, Smith, drew a gun and said he would kill Moore.
In all honesty, what was Moore supposed to do at that point? Let Smith shoot him?

Moore walked because it was self-defense.

12. You make a good point, Silverhair, and I respect that.
What I find interesting about this story is that these two guys were supposed to be such good friends who had heated debates before.

I'll readily admit not being gun-savvy so if it were me, I'd probably be dead. Because if such a "good friend" drew a gun on me threatening to kill me, I'd be stupid enough (I would imagine you're thinking Montauk's an idiot, that's fine) to try to talk sense to him. My FIRST reaction would not be to shoot him, that simple. At that moment, I'd be feel more perplexed and disappointed than threatened. If, again, this was such a "good friend."

So, in all honesty, a "good friend" at that point would realize that things had gotten too far and try to diffuse the situation. That's my answer.

14. I too am very confused about the "good friend" aspect.
If someone were my good friend, I would be very strongly inhibited from shooting them, even if they had just pulled a gun on me. And I am a very strong believer in the right to keep and bear arms and in the right to self-defense.

In that kind of situation, once the debate began to become heated, I would start thinking of the friendship being more important than politics and would try to defuse the tension. The topic can always be mildly resumed at another time. We can't convert someone to our cause by making them angry at us.

For that matter, if you are packing, you are morally and legally obliged to ALWAYS attempt to deescalate ALL conflicts. No argument is worth getting into a shoot-out over.

The media reports just don't smell right on this one. And now it's old news and the MSM is on to something else. I would love to know the true details on this. I bet it would be different from the MSM version. Not accusing the MSM of an agenda here, just of being sloppy.

7. The draft.
Anything else and it would be too late (ie martial law, all liberals into internment camps, etc)

8. The 2006 election.
We already know that both 2000 and 2004 were stolen, as were some races in 2002. The notion that exit polls are unreliable is so wrong that I wonder what rock most people have been living under for the last 30 or so years.

I keep on hoping things will get better, but I honestly think we're still on the downward spiral.

We're already taking a close look at various other countries. Mr. Dofus is making a trip to Vancouver next month. He went to Costa Rica last December.

10. Getting a letter in the mail that I'm tapped for reactivation

Had no idea about the whole IRR bullshit, although in all likely hood I couldn't pass a physical to be reactivated. But yeah, getting anything in the mail of that sort would have me seriously thinking about relocating.

is my country. I will not give up hope, and I know things are going to get better. We have a little while left, but I am patient. People are beginning to see (unfortunately it took so long) where this country is heading.
