Free Music Festival in Opposition to Iraq War

Diverse Musicians Announce Plans for 'Operation Ceasefire'; Concert, Rally Showpiece of 4 Days of Massive Action Against the War

DETAILS:

Organizers of Operation Ceasefire, a new coalition of concerned musicians, will announce a day long music festival and rally calling for an end to the Iraq War at a press conference Wednesday, August 10, beginning at Noon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The massive anti-war concert/rally will be held at the Washington Monument on September 24th and will be a showpiece of what is expected to be 4 days of enormous protests in nation's capital in support of a full withdrawal of U.S. forces from the quagmire in Iraq. The press conference will feature musical artists, military families who have loved ones in Iraq, returning soldiers opposed to the war and organizers from United for Peace & Justice (UFPJ), the largest U.S. based anti-war coalition which is co-sponsoring the event.

The concert will bring together several notable musical acts such as: International Recording Stars Thievery Corporation, Punk-rock bands LeTigre, Bouncing Souls, Country music recording artist Steve Earle, Socially conscious Hip-Hop groups like The Coup and Head-Roc, Indy rock stars Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Wayne Kramer of the MC5 with the Bellrays along with host Jello Biafra and many more will unite on one stage for one cause! More details about the concert and rally will be discussed at the press conference and additional performers will be added. As Live Aid and Live 8 raised desperately needed funds and awareness for hunger and poverty, Operation Ceasefire intends to elevate the fight against the misguided and immoral occupation of Iraq.
