5. Random fact: If you ask for a soda in Austria, you'll get soda water
You have to ask for a "pop" or a "soda pop".

This clearly shows that "pop" is more important/a better name than "soda"

11. Yeah, but coke is even more specific. Even though I prefer Pepsi,
I still say coke. They give me which ever one they carry. It is known that they are the same even if they aren't!

Which proves that it's right.

Soda means fizzy water (e.g., for mixing with brandy - if one is so inclined). Pop means a nasty drink packed full of pointless sugar gas and (artificial) flavourings.

Also, as a general question, what's the point of asking for a generic 'pop' - why not specify which one one wants to have, or at least which flavour? I wouldn't just walk into a bar and ask for a 'cocktail'.
