Sirius, Air America, Randi, and Schultz... A rant!
It has been about a month now since Air America abandoned Sirius, and I have been forced to listen to that Blow Hard George Schultz on my way home from work, rather than the goddess Randi! I tried to keep an open mind and listen to Limbaugh Left, but yesterday I had enough and called the show:

"Hi, do you want to talk to Big Ed?" (give me a break!)

"No, I want you to tell "Big Ed" to stop talking about sports. There are far too many important issues to discuss than whether the NCAA has overstepped its boundaries banning offensive Native American names. If I wanted to listen to sports talk radio, I will listen to sports talk radio, not "Sirius Left" (yes I realize he is on more than Sirius, but the point is that he is a political talk show, not a sports talk show). There are plenty of sports talk radio shows on the dial, but I only have one choice for progressive talk."

"I am sorry that Ed couldn't satisfy you for 5 minutes" (F*ck you, douchebag!)

"It isn't about satisfying me, it is about the fact that you are a political talk show, not a sports talk show: who cares about the NCAA!"

"Do you have any idea how many lefties care about sports?"

"I don't care! Let them tune into a sports show if they want to hear about sports-"

-click-
He hung up.

I miss Randi! I can't even switch to XM, because they preempt her for this Douchebag! Don't get me wrong, I like the rest of the line up at Air America (except for Jerry Springer... he's pretty boring), and Stephanie Miller, and the Young Turks are good on Sirius Left, but I am so angry at Air America for dumping Sirius after I spent the money on the equipment and subscription soley to have Air America, and Randi.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!:argh:

1. he talks sports for like 10minutes out 3 hours
give me break and he's drawing the largest progressive audience and doing a good job of expanding and energizing the base

5. I listened for a few minutes yesterday
But when he insisted that Indian names were okay for teams because people like them, I turned him off again. Lots of folks liked segregation, too.

13. That's a mischaracterization
I listened to Ed yesterday and I am listening to him today. At no time did I hear him insist that Indian names were okay. As a matter of fact, he has stated that, since he is not a Native American, he has remained more or less neutral and is only offerring his show as a forum to facilitate discussion of the issue.

18. But his take was definitely one of "the NCAA should back off"
That isn't exactly a neutral position.

6. I like his show.
I only listen to him in the car if I'm out and about. I listen to Randi on the net during work.

But Ed's good. He's got a good audience.

8. He is a Rush Limbaugh clone on the left
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 03:43 PM by thom1102
and I couldn't care less about how many people he draws, or energizes. He is obnoxious, I don't like sports, and it seems like everytime I turn him on, that is what he is talking about. If he wants to be a sports commentator, then be a sports commentator, not a liberal talk radio host.

Besides, it my post and I will rant if I want to!

on edit: What, are you the intern I talked to on the phone yesterday?

12. Rant away dear (in my best Mrs. Doubtfire voice).......I happen to agree.
The voices of reason have not been able to placate me and sooth my anger at Sirius losing AAR and alienating their subscribers.

My money, my investment, talked many others into spending their dough on Sirius, got my husband to pony up and put one in his car too.

Make no mistake, Sirius is the major culprit in this mess, AAR is a close second.

2. dude, settle down
some people-- myself included-- find it refreshing that Schultz can take a few minutes of his time on the radio and talk about something else besides politics. It gets monotonous, and it's much better then screaming at or ridiculing people who call in who disagree with the host slightly about anything.

3. Actually, Sirius dumped AAR. They wouldn't meet the offer that XM made. NT

4. Ed Schultz is Progressive Talk (syndicated by Jones), not Air America
I heard part of his NCAA rant show and was just as disappointed as you were. Sometimes he does have decent guests, though (LOVED it when Jim Lampley filled in for him one day last week) but if I had to choose, there'd be no question -- I'm a RANDI FAN!

Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 03:43 PM by thom1102
I was lamenting AAR leaving Sirius and being left with only Douchebag Ed Schultz on their "Sirius Left"

on edit. I liked Jim Lampley, too.

7. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Big Ed, but I'm sure that's not a big
deal to those who do like him. To each his or her own.

11. I'm not a big fan of Ed either, but he serves a purpose
I believe he reaches Middle America and moderates, and he does a good job bringing the issues to these people. I prefer Randi, and my local Air America affiliate has her on delay (she's on 6-10 EST). So I end up streaming her at work, as her grasp of knowledge and delivery is more appealing to my sensibilities.

19. I agree...
... I don't find Ed particularly interesting, but I can see where he might do well with a certain audience segment, of which there are lots of people.

We need all kinds, from Ed to Mike Malloy IMHO, so I'll refrain from criticising.

14. XM does carry half of Randi's show. (they don't give it all to Ed)
I usually listen to music during the ED Shultz bit. I'm pretty sure that between the rest of AAR, a few blogs, and two newspapers not many stories are totally escaping my notice--so it's nice to chc out the music and comedy channels sometimes. Of course Springer is three hours I have to kill....(sigh)

XM also has that tool COlmes on and delays Mike Malloy--that's a tough break.

I've heard good things about the young Turks and Stephanie Miller--but as yet have not heard them. Is Thom Hartman on Sirius? He's been great the few times I've manged to hear him.

16. XM Subscribers need to let them know we want the REAL Air America.
No Ed Schultz, and definitely no FAUX News dweebs!

Randi Rhoads and Mike Malloy are the best shows on Air America, and they deserve to be aired in their entirety, in their correct time slot, especially by those of us who are actually paying to hear them.

17. That is why I won't switch to XM
I mean, what's the point? I want to listen to Randi in the afternoon, and I have to listen to Doofus on Sirius now. Why pay for the new XM equipment and subscription to hear the same Doofus in the afternoon?
