My College House is having a Party and I'm at my 500th post
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 11:16 PM by slinkerwink
Downstairs, there's a lot of new guys around. My college is a women's college so I'm feeling very shy around all the new guys. I really haven't dated any men except my ex-boyfriend last year so I feel very tongue-tied right now.

A guy came up to me, and asked me what my name was. I said, "It's Noelle." He said his name was Mike. We both stood there, holding our beers while people danced around us. I have two left feet so I really didn't want to dance. We sipped our beers in silence while I was thinking, "I'm such a major nerd!" I then moved away because I didn't want to make it any more awkward. I met my ex-boyfriend in a coffee house, and it's so odd for me to connect to guys at parties where all they seem interested in is doing the ol' bump and grind.

I'd rather have an intellectual conversation over a few glasses of wine instead of dancing drunkenly with a sloshing cup of beer. Am I weird for being this way? Maybe I should go back downstairs and make another go of it.....

Hahaha, omg.....someone pulled the fire alarm and the party is now over. I had to wait outside with everyone else.......hahahaha

1. Give it a try.
There might be a good one in the bunch. The nice, quiet one in the corner perhaps. No matter what, I hope you have fun tonight! :)

I'm not a man that likes to dance. Dancing isn't for me. I just like sitting there and chatting w/ friends or strangers, drinking my beer. I also like the intelligent conversations. It's actually amusing to watch people dance while drunk. :)

on edit: I'm actually drinking right now. :hi:

7. Just try a converstation
If it feels awkward just blurt out that George Bush is the worst President in history. And then the important part, ask what they think. I am not joking at all. It will start a conversation that you know about and help determine if that cute guy has any depth to him. Just go for it.

18. No, not going to let you do that
Sheesh I've read the posts about what DU men say about you. It's time to make it work for you. Just talk to folks. Not in a sexual way. Just try to get to know them. Think about your candidate and it's your time to win votes. Just go for it. I think the dutch courage is a real bad idea. Umm, don't accept unopened drinks from anyone.

I've only dated three guys really, and was never in a huge college party like the one my house is throwing, so I'm feeling very mega-shy now.

24. Well, set a goal for yourself tonight so
that you feel successful. Think about this for awhile and just do it. Do you need to greet 3 men and engage in chit chat. Have you already done enough to make you feel successful. You get the idea. Don't let tonight make you feel like a failure. Do what you need to do to make you feel comfortable

25. Men are not much different from women
It's the first lesson we learn in long term heterosexual relationships. Just approach them the way you would a female peer. The sexual attraction will follow.

17. You sound a lot like me at parties
I'm ALWAYS shy around girls at parties. I'll be like, the only one in the corner occasionally chatting with a friend for a minute before they get back into the fray. Hell, even drinking wouldn't help(i'm 15, and i've tried getting drunk at a party only once. LONG story :)). I'd so much rather have a conversation, too...but I don't have much luck with that since no one really likes to chat about politics that much at a party when you're 15. :silly:

30. you guys won't believe this....
after the fire alarm was pulled, they decided to resume the party. So I went back downstairs, had a couple of beers, and danced with a guy. Then I hit on a really cute butch girl. I was in the middle of a conversation with her when the FIRE ALARM rang again for the SECOND time. The HCA was really pissed and called the party off. So the cute girl had to leave the house because she didn't live in it. I'm pissed about those frat boys pulling the fire alarm trick again....ARRRRGH!

if you're REALLY a major nerd, then you're in good company here.

Your situation reminds me of something that happened down here last year - a good friend of mine held the biggest goddamn rager I've ever seen. And all I did was stand around outside and drink beer, becauseit was so goddamn loud that I was convinced the cops would come and break it up at any second (which they did - after I left).

On a separate note, not ALL guys are out for the bump-and-grind. Hell, I'd probably be in the same spot you were in (if I wasn't spending a half-hour driving up to a community college every friggin' day :P).

Hope you have a good time - and watch that goddamn smoke machine!

major nerds are alright in my book. they're better than those ditzy blondes (no offense to any of you who happen to be one of them). You can actually talk to "nerds." Ditzes, give them a shiny quarter and they'd be satisfied for hours. (again, no offense to those of you who are a ditzy blonde.)

I need more .

A little drinking never hurt anyone.

Nor did a lot of drinking.

And an insane amount of drinking - well, that's perfectly normal too.

46. And why, exactly?
Because if there wasn't someone like ME here to drink way too much, someone else would. And I have a feeling they'd have considerably less fun doing it.

So I consider it a public service on my behalf.
