Does anyone know anything about "People to People student Ambassadors"? |
|
I just got a letter in the mail saying my daughter had been recommended by a teacher or nationial academic listing to travel to Australia in 2006 for 20 days as a student ambassador. I looked on the internets and i found some good and some somewhat negative comments about this org. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_to_People_Student_Ambassador_Program

It was an experience I will cherish the rest of my life. We went to Australia and New Zealand. The organization makes all of the arrangements, and we did not have a problem at all, from international airfare, to the hotels, to getting tickets to see either the Sydney Symphony in the Opera House ar seeing Australian rules football.
I would highly recommend the program. It was a fantastic experience.

They had a group of, I believe 6 adults, 4 of whom, if I remember correctly, were teachers for around 35 students. I was in the high school program, so there is a possibility that the number of adults may be different for the junior high school program.
As for letting you be one of the chaperons, I have no idea. I know that the ones who went with us had been on several trips in the past., but there always has to be a first trip. Your best bet would be to call the program and ask. The worst they can say is no.
If you have more questions, let me know. I have so many fantastic memories, and I know how well things were planned and supervised, I would let my child (if I had any) go without question.

She just got back about two weeks ago. She had a wonderful time. My friend is a multi-year recipient of the Anal Retentive Mother Of The Year Award. In other words, she's the best mom a kid could hope to have and she would never let her kid venture halfway around the globe with some yahoo organization. I think it must be a good program.
