Okay, so my FIL, who I am SUPPORTING by the way,
just told me while I was cursing up a storm...

Background: The in wall A/C in our addition had to be removed and taken in for repair, so I placed some temporary cloth around it. It apparently blew down, and I was cursing up a storm...mind you, no one under the age of 45 was even on the first floor, and I was cursing because I have been air conditioning the neighborhood for 6 hours.... and my FIL said, 'You should stop that cursing, you will have a hard enough time getting into Heaven'.

This from a man who I cook for, do laundry for, chauffeur around and take to the doctors, while his own daughter abused him so badly we had to bring him to live with us.

This just sucks...eggs.

1. Did you slap him into the middle of next week?
I'd have been sorely tempted.

2. Tell him God has awarded you points for taking care of his lazy ass.
Then tell him to move if he still has a problem.

There is no hell my in-laws will ever live with me. They have only crossed my doorway one time... and that was once too often for me.

5. I'm telling you. I can't believe he would say that.
Especially since he knows that I take the spirituality thing pretty seriously.

My mom had an award named for her at the Church I grew up in for her social justice works.

Taking care of this old SOB qualifies I would think.

and these guys who posted are soooooo mean ;)

Honestly, I know where you're coming from. I took care of my Mom after her stroke for 4 years. Finally had to put her in a nursing home or get ready for my own funeral. She made me feel guilty blah, blah, blah. She never had to take care of anyone in her family yet she expected me to stop living and give her 24/7. She passed away June 7th at the age of 93 - I miss that PITA! You're going to heaven.

7. See the thing is....I took care of my dad who was
a wonderful, amazing person, even as his body was failing him, as well as his mind, he was always cheerful and upbeat.

This guy sees everything as negative. Because I am pretty upbeat, it is really starting to get to me. I haven't said anything to my husband, because bless his heart, the guy drives him crazier than he does me.

I have a pretty high tolerance for nuts, I have kids....

That statement just shocked me so bad because I know I shouldn't use curse words, but they are not nearly as bad as doing something evil.

11. You're a very caring person.
It's so hard to be the 'sandwich generation'. We raise kids, and help with grandkids, and have to take care of our own parents or in-laws. Don't let him get to you. It's hard, I know.

You should have said, oh fuck it. That might have sent him over the edge. lol

16. Clearly,
it's time for you to start spitting in his soup.

After you stir in the ground-up Xanax.

That should shut him the hell up.

You're a fucking saint. Tell him I told you so....................

10. LOL. Apparently.
Which would come as a huge shock to my mom, the most compassionate person I ever knew, who could curse with the best of them.

14. You're an adult -- if you want to curse, you should curse.
Sometimes cursing helps a person not to have health problems. It doesn't sound as though you curse on a regular basis. (I'm not saying that it's wrong if you would, but it would make more sense why your FIL was complaining if it was something that he didn't feel comfortable being around.) You're just cursing when you need to let off steam.

Bottom line: You're an adult -- not a child -- and he's living in your home. Ignore him. If he's not complaining about this, he'll be complaining about something else instead.

If they won't let her in, we'll kick down the damn pearly gates and take her in with an armed escort.

17. That's too bad
It's hard to take care of someone who seem to suck all your good will into a black hole.

His negative outlook is no doubt built upon a life of poor treatment and not knowing how to be different, and that being different would bring him true joy.

It's not impossible for him to change, but it seems not very likely.

You are a good person to give this sad guy a home and care. I would answer that statement of his "That's between me and my god, and I'm sure He's heard worse. I'll apologise to Him later" That gives him an answer without belittling him or starting something. It is, IIRC, up to the supreme being to make that judgement, if that is the belief system he has chosen to follow.

18. The Bible only says not to take the name of the Lord in vain
It says nothing about swearing.

It also tells people to mind their own business and "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Let him meditate on that instead of nagging you.

Here's a smiley for all the hard work you do here, even though it won't help with your problems at home:
