is true to women who did not have a positive father figure growing up. I don't want to generalize but I do recognize it in my friends.

20. For what it's worth, I didn't have a positive father figure growing up... |
|
and this doesn't describe me at all. It doesn't describe any of my sisters either.

Sometimes it's straight guys looking for a mommy figure. ;)
More frequently, I suspect it's neither, but simply two compatible adults who are sufficiently attracted towards one another as to feel a deep and abiding emotional bond.
But I always was a romantic.

8. I think that some straight women are but certainly not "every" one.. |
|
There are some women who want to 'mother' their mate. NOT every woman wants to be treated like a Daddy's Little Girl! Am I getting around to answering your question, Mr Scorpio?

And it may not be such a bad thing. Unless there's something totally messed up, her father was the first, best man in her life. She's not necessarily looking for daddy figure, but someone who treats the way he did.
I'll add this: better for this straight woman to look for a daddy figure than a mommy figure.

16. 1/3 Daddy figures, 1/3 Comic Relief, 1/3 "Travel Agents" |
|
Frankly I despair. My ex left me for somebody 15 years her senior. The personals are full of stupid cliches: "A guy who loves to laugh." (who are the laughter haters?) or endless references to to a man's $$$ or "loves travel" (read: can afford endless travel) or "sense of adventure" (likewise).
Where are the women who want a guy to go to farmers market with? How about a guy who will cross town to change your friends mom's light switch?
I want an anti-Viagra. A pill that will make me blissfully uncaring about sexuality.

I know many women who would love someone like you. I ask that the Universe help you to find the perfect woman (for you) -- one who will appreciate all the things that make you special and who will have all of the traits that you consider to be special in a woman.

23. you don't meet them through the personals |
|
you meet them at the farmer's market or are introduced by your friend's mom.
In other words, if you want to meet people with whom you share an interest, you need to meet them when pursuing your interests. That way you make friends first.
Sorry about your ex.

All truth? Nope.
Every person is different and has different needs and wants in a relationship... some women want a daddy figure, some want a 'child' to parent, some want a partner on equal footing... and many, many other variations on all of that.
Now, if you're talking about women ending up with guys who are like their fathers, I think there may be more truth to it, that way. But I don't know that for sure, obviously.

21. If by "daddy" you mean love, support, yeah. Not control, ordering around. |
|
I think women are obviously looking for a man who loves her. I've seen the way some fathers look at their daughters, and a woman would have to be plumb nuts to not want that kind of unconditional love.
But *very* few women are looking for a man to tell them what to do, coddle them and treat them like a precious little dolly, make decisions for them, etc.
Eww.

...but I have noticed I tend to wind up with guys who make connections intellectually, through talking about books and music and politics and such, as my father does. But that might be just because it's a factor of MY personality too.
My partner's younger than me, so maybe I'm looking for the little brother I never had. Makes about as much sense.

I tend to like younger men. At least my last boyfriend was 8 years younger.
I had a great dad and I'm not looking for another one.

None of my serious relationships have been with men who in any way remotely are like my father. Nor do I have an issue with searching for "a better father" - in a mate.
