How 'bout them Vikings??? |
|
Defense holds Chiefs to ONLY field goals. NICE. The special teams didn't give up any huge plays (except for the bad punt). NICE. I know it's only preseason, but I like what I see so far.
And being from University of North Dakota, it was so nice to see big Jimmy K. knocking people around again. Oh, how I've missed that.

UND...the COLDEST spot on the face of the earth. I remember when President Tom Clifford used to cruise around campus in his plush Buick...and offer the truly hypothermic students a ride to their buildings. Whatta guy! It's like we've all survived some kind of near-death experience just by attending and graduating from that campus.

9. Yeah, plus I survived the fucking flood too. |

It was my freshman year at UND. We had 13 blizzards and then the flood. I thought I had enrolled at the University of the Seven Plagues. Thank God all the years weren't like that one. LOL.

For now I guess. God knows what will happen with that new rule. With UND it's complicated.

Something about $1 rent for the hockey rink (owned by the reservation?) if they keep the name?

But first of all, the Nazi that built the new 100 million dollar HOckey arena, filled it with the redesigned Sioux logo. He did it on purpose, as a finger to all those who wanted the name changed. This same guy was sanctioned by the Las Vegas Gaming Commission for recognizing Hitler's birthday. He also had a valuable collection of Nazi memorabilia.
But what makes it most complicated is the fact that during the last controversy, the University surveyed the local Lakota tribe members and found that a majority liked or did not care about the use of the name. What's more, they commissioned a native american artist to design the logo.

I've heard that Englestad...that Nazi...put in his will that his endowments to UND will cease, posthumously, if they change the name of the Sioux. Am I right on that?

27. Not sure about that either. |
|
But he did condition his original 100 million dollar donation upon the name staying as it was. I do not fault the University for relenting either. As a small state University, you cannot pass up 100+ million dollars. But then he went and spent 90 million of it on that hand job they call a hockey stadium.
He was such a racist jerkoff that he probably did condition his donations posthumously. I never liked that guy.

I was out of UND and out in Michigan for that whole incredible event.
My brother still lives 2 blocks north of University, just off the coulee. His was the only house in the neighborhood that took NO water.
And, yeah, I remember the blizzard (most people don't really know what a true blizzard is,know what I mean?) after blizzard after enormous ice storm. A horrible confluence of weather.
Have you read the excellent book Red River Rising?

But yeah..it is a great read. Lots of good meteorlogical warning signs were missed...and it spells the entire disaster out.
I recommend it. In fact, if you ever want to read it...I'll ship it to ya. Really. It's amazing.

But we've got a nice little bookstore that sells many North Dakota books. Thanks though. I'll have to check it out. Hell, if there are any pictures, I might see myself sandbagging or something. It was a trip.

It's pre-season..the Chiefs were playing their stringers and the Vikes were playing their A-squad. Yeah. That's the ticket! Keep telling yourself that and it'll be allright in the morning.

Trent Green did light up the secondary there for a bit too. But we still have Fred Smoot to add. With time I think it will be good. Hell, anything is better than last year's shitstorm.

14. I am from Alabama and I have been raging Vikes fan since 1967! |
|
I can't really explain why (maybe Jo Capp being Native American?), but I always got strange looks when I pulled for the Vikings; yeah, I bleed purple, too. And being a Vikings fan had nothing to do with my marrying a Minnesota girl 27 years ago (I was just waaaay lucky - she doesn't even like football!). So, go Vikes! It's good to know there is a good contingent of VFs on DU!
