Have you heard of google.earth?
Its a compilation of satellite images that is pieced together to form the whole planet on your computer. You can zoom in/out and fly over any area with a bird's eye view. Going from North America to Africa is no problem, zoom out to a few thousand miles altitude and turn right. It even has a search function to help you locate things that are entered in the database (dining locations, shopping malls, atm locations, your local zoo). Way Cool. I might try to post some images for you to see.

There are some system requirements to run it. You need broadband internet, and a fairly recent computer with windows 2000 or XP. Check it out here if you are interested.

1. Yes
I have had it for a few years now.
First it was Earthviewer then Keyhole and now Google Earth.
It use to cost around $50 for a yearly subscription but now is free.

4. It's a fantastic program!
I have spent HOURS "surfing" the planet with Google Earth. It's better than "Terraserver" and in color! Highly recommended!

5. Truly amazing...
On a fast enough connection, you zoom in almost real time. It looks like something you'd see out of a scene from Star Trek, or another science fiction movie.

I'd never have predicted that program even 5 years ago. The only way it could be better is if it was updated in real time.

Some areas are in higher resolution than others. Here's a shot of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This is very high resolution, you can see cars and trees.

7. Actually, it runs on machines slower than the minimum spec just fine
Like my laptop with half the video memory required, and no 32 bit color option ;-)
