I hate the state fair. It's like a white trash version of Vegas and Disneyland all rolled up together. Dumb f*ckers bitchin' and moanin' about how much a motel room runs for and how much gas costs while they cram funnel cakes, corn dogs and fried Twinkies down their gullets. Today I cleaned 40 motel rooms. Forty rooms that had been inhabited by the fair-going freaks. Forty rooms of wall-to-wall vomit, dog shit and flat beer. Just a word of advice for ya'll. If you leave your porn collection in your room when you check out and you are easily embarrassed, don't call back and act all cute over the phone. I'll call you out on it every single time. "Yes, you were in room 305? You left some magazines in there? But Reverend, all I found were back issues of Big Jugs and a used vibrator. Could that be yours?" (Real phone call from this afternoon, in case you think I'm joking). And if you use multiple condoms, please put them in the handy trash recepticles that are located in your room. I really don't like it when you fling them at a mirror, at the television screen or on the ceiling. And another thing: I don't answer to Toots, Chick or Hey You. I have a name tag. Please take the half second that you need to read it. I don't like having my ass pinched. And I don't care how much money you have-I'm not taking off my clothes and "servicing" you.
I have a life outside of that hellhole motel. I don't mind cleaning up after you. I am paid to do that and the pay allows me to purchase new school clothes for my child. But the next time you check into a room please think about this: what if it were your sister or your mother having to clean up this shit for $6 an hour? How would you feel about that? Would you want your mother spending an hour on her hands and knees cleaning up nasty bodily fluids? Probably not. Just use a bit of courtesy next time you rent a room. Don't purposely shove an entire roll of toilet paper down the toilet. Don't stick gum in the sheets. And don't trim your pubic hair while laying on the table. /end rant

No one should have to. Hotel cleaning should be about changing sheets and normal tidying and cleaning. Not playing nurse maid to a load of selfish lazy assholes.
I hope the next time some GDCSer wants you to service him, you can refuse him loudly and in detail, so that others might hear you.

This is her first "big kid" school. She can't wait to ride the bus. She also wants to buy a lunchbox so that she can take her lunch every day (that won't last very long!).
I plan on going to KC to buy her a few outfits so that she won't look like a quarter of her class. I hope it's enough to buy something decent.

I'm certain that she'll make friends. The lunch box thing will be fun for her. She'll probably be looking to trade her nutritional carefully planed meals for somebody's cookies.

Every single meal has been thoughtfully planned out for the next month. I know who grows what kind of fruit in this area and what they spray on their fields so I know who to buy from. And I even make my own cookies (I know, not too many of us left). We both know that the first chance she gets she will trade it all for Oreos. I can't blame her. I like Oreos too.

That's just horrible. :(
What percentage of the rooms are that bad? Is it just about all of them or only a select few? And this is coming from someone who leaves a hotel room in the same condition he found it in, with the exception of rumpled sheets and damp linen. I HATE pigs. :grr:

I'm the only "white girl" on housekeeping staff so they ask me all their stupid questions. Housekeeping is a job. It's a hard job and there are skills involved (hell, working at McDonalds involves skill!). I hate hearing them make fun of the housekeepers, especially our foreign-born ones (since they have dark skin they assume they don't speak English. Wrong! One of them was trained as a nurse in her home country. She is working here while trying to obtain her license stateside). People treat housekeepers like shit.

... it's crazy to make assumptions.
I travel a lot for my job, and have gotten into the habit of leaving a small tip each day, rather than one larger tip at the end of my stay. I also write a quick thank-you note, so the housekeepers know it's for them.
Well, my cramped, childish handwriting is something I've always been embarrassed about. So I was blown away -- and totally jealous! -- one time when the housekeeper wrote a little note back in the The Most beautiful, elegant, flowing script I've ever seen. Seriously, it was like John Hancock's signature on the Declaration of Independence. Absolutely gorgeous.
She was from Jamaica and had a fairly thick accent, and I don't doubt cloddish guests make all sorts of dismissive assumptions about her, never knowing her intelligence and talent. Just goes to show how pointless it is to judge people on what they're doing for a living.

IMO, it's not a racial slur. It's more a classist slur. There are different forms of trash-white, trailer park, etc. Most of the time it's aimed at lower classes (pretty funny since I drive a '94 Tracer and most of the guests were driving Lincolns and Hummers).

I have a friend who gets upset with me when I say "trailer trash", because she lives in one. I always have to tell her, "Oh, I don't mean YOU!"
When she first moved there a few years ago, my son was tiny. He walked around the 'house', then doubled at the waist and looked underneath. Finally, he asked, "Where's the wheels, Chris?"

I was in on that one (stupid me!). And sometimes we try to be too PC for our own good. There are times that plainspeaking will get us farther than all the 10 cent words that we can dig out of a dictionary. It was good enough for Truman to speak how he felt. Since I live about 40 minutes from his home it's good enough for me.

I should have left the busybodies out of this.
It's hard to tell sometimes on DU. A thread was locked not long ago, and I can't figure out why. But, I don't get offended as easily as some people do, and maybe more easily than others, who knows?
Something that looks flaming to one poster might not strike me as all that, and vice versa.
When I cleaned hotel rooms, we had to dust the lightbulbs in the lamps. It had never occured to me before, and my Mom made us CLEAN (toothbrush and bleach type stuff) when we were growing up. She never had us dust the bulbs, though.
Bottm line, I hope you feel better after venting, and with the support you got over the incident. :)

I've cleaned rooms before in both cities and towns. It's usually an easy job to get and I can pick up a few extra dollars here and there. They are really treated badly. If our guests had to clean up that mess they would easily demand $30-$40 an hour pay. They seem to think it's their right to be asses while staying somewhere besides home.

60. If you've ever watched shows like Dateline or 20/20 |
|
you'd see where they go into rooms and shine blacklights. Once you see that you'd never stay in a room again. Thank goodness a friend has a travel trailer!

66. Just so you know..... |

My buddy use to work at the ritz here in Cleveland.....
And he said that a lot of the people who stayed there were absolutel pigs....
All the time, not just during special occassions.....
I guess there is something about staying in a hotel that gives people license to act like slobs.....
I always clean up after myself and check the room to see that it isn't too bad...
