Speaking of Hot-Dogs...............
Every once in a while, I get the hankerin' for a nice Char-Dog.

I've never had a Char-Dog any place else except for here, in Chicagoland.

The recipe, is to cut a cross on both ends of a premium hot dog, like you would a brussels sprout, and grill it up nicely so that it's blackened a bit, and the ends of the dog are a little bit crispy. Put it on a bun with your favorite toppings.

It's delicious. Do people do this elsewhere?

Just wondering.

2. Usuaully When I'm Camping
I don't cut a cross in the end though; just take a knife and make a shallow cut lengthwise over a hickory stoked campfire.

Charcoal just isn't the same for some reason.

It is delicious.

4. This place is Hot Dog Central
People here are really stoked over hot dogs. I think it's a remnant of the meat packing industry. Vienna, Oscar Mayer, etc.

A real Chicago-style dog is steamed and placed in a poppy seed bun, with about 10 or 11 toppings. I like my dogs NY style. Onion, relish and mustard only, thank you.

Here's an image of a Chicago style dog. Seems a bit much.

5. I can feel the acid rising now....
the only good thing about acid reflux is
avoiding foods that look like that. :-)

6. My favorites are the little "NY System" hot dogs" in Rhode Island.
Any of you familiar with these:
Little tiny hot dogs (I think they call them 'saugis')
Anyhow, you can usually eat about 3-4 of these.
They have this type of meat sauce on them (not chili) and then topped with finely chopped onion and celery salt.

Hmmmmm...Does anyone have the recipe?

7. MMMMMMMM
Gold Coast Dogs used to do this. Also, the Weiner's Circle on Clark. Under various names they've been charring dogs since I was a nubile punker.
