I was told today that my SO's Mutti has passed away.
His mom told me a couple of hours after he left for work. He loves his great gramma so much, and I know he will be heartbroken. Everyone has expected this for awhile now, and of course that doesn't make it the slightest bit easier. I've only talked to her once for a short period on the phone, I don't even know her name. But knowing how much my SO loves her, and all the good things I've heard about her, all the stories... I cried when his mom told me. my SO had such a shitty childhood living with his father and almost all of his good childhood memories come from being around his mother, Oma, and Mutti. Those 3 beautiful souls made him the person he is today.
I don't know how to tell him. I am just so glad that it was peaceful and painless. And I know there is no easy way to tell him, no matter how I put it, it won't save him from the heartache.

I've never had to tell somebody anything like this. If it were anybody else, this would be so much easier. But he is my other half, and I just don't know how to do this.

1. Hugs to you both
I hope you find the right words  Death is not an easy thing, but I'm sure that knowing he has your support and understanding will be some comfort to him. Love and hugs to you all

2. Thank you..
 I hope you're right. I know he will be fine, but I know he is going to be hurt, and that hurts me. I don't know how to explain it but I'm sure you understand my meaning.

3. Yup, I hear you
Giving painful news is hard, because usually it means you're bringing a lot of pain to someone you care deeply about. Just do the best you can, and remember that he'd probably rather hear it from you than from anyone else

6. Exactly...
I think I'm going to call my Grandma for some advice, Lord knows she has been in this very same situation and I could sure use my Grandma's assurance right about now. Thank you for caring.

5. I am, too.
I wish his mother still lived in Indiana so that the two of us could tell him together. But, she has trusted me to tell him, and I'll do my best. I just wish we had some liquor or something. We'll see how things go. Thanks for the reply.
