:bounce: There's one way to show * and the BFEE gang how they won't be getting me to pay big mney at the gas pump--a nice bicycle:

With my credit improving, I was all set to stat looking at a car, but not now...at least I'll be able to enjoy some nice biking trails and have fun.

2. I'm very lucky
that my job is only about 1.6 miles from me, so I can walk..but a bicycle I'll be there much much sooner. This will help a great deal when it becomes fall and winter.

3. Consider a road instead of a mountain bike
if you are looking at doing serious commuting. The low-end $500-600 road bikes are good for commuting.

Examples are the Giant OCR3

Or the Trek 1000C WRD

4. Great!
At college, I plan on carpooling and/or walking, since there's a little town nearby.

Oh, and your username brings back memories of 'Anime Whose Line is it Anyways' that my friend used to make. We did Gundam Wing outtakes, and I pulled a helmut down over my eyes and ran into things.

5. If you're going to commute with it,
replace the knobby mud-tires those are sold with with a set of street tires. You'll thank yourself for doing so, I assure you.

BTW - ditto CatholicEdHead. If this is for commuting, there's NO WAY you'll need 21 gears and that heavy a frame. I have a mountain bike I used to offroad with, and I didn't want to buy a new one when I gave that up and started using a bike for commuting, so I put road-slicks on it, but seriously, all those gears are just overkill, even for trail riding. I've never used more than 7 of 'em.
