Hubris is killing the USA |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 11:42 AM by Taverner
Hubris killed the Spanish when they went head to head against Elizabeth's English Navy...they thought they were invincible and thought they had no weaknesses.
Hubris killed Napoleon when he invaded Russia. Again, he thought he was invincible and could invade Russia, without deference or respect to the Russian winter.
Hubris killed Nazi Germany when they did the SAME STUPID THING as Napoleon did.
And Hubris will kill us, as we went to Iraq on a bed of lies without an exit strategy or a post-war plan. We thought they'd be throwing flowers at our feet...

4. Those were not the only ones, either. |

We've been reading history books lately. It seems that almost EVERY power which has been in power, was subject to this. And they all fell to the same fate.
I think it's a form of suicide, personally. I look at Bush's ignorant face, or Rove, continuing like a hamster, smearing people all day long. Or the Pentagon, hamstrung by RumsFailed's insane, arrogant decisions. Or Cheney, who arrogantly says the insurgency "is in its last throes".
I really do believe it's a form of self-annihilation. These people are not stupid. (except for Bush, but he's just a puppet). They're actually brilliant (in their own way). Shrewd, cunning, calculating. But NOT stupid. So why would they do this?
They are so locked into their own decisions which are turning out to be a disaster. They're obviously unable to shift gears and try a new route. They're not flexible. They're rigid as hell. An animal in the woods would not survive by this type of thinking.
