Caffeine is contributing to my anxiety!
But now I am anxious that I can't have any more coffee!

2. Listen to your doctor! |
|
But cut back gradually. Cold turkey from a caffeine Jones can make you feel like shit for a week or so.

3. Work throught it. You'll thank yourself. |
|
After I was diagnosed with Late Onset Juvenile Diabetes during law school, I went through the normal realization that I wasn't invincible, which was really hard for me. I started to get anxious about everything. It felt like there was an elephant sitting on my chest all day long. My doctor advised me to cut out caffeine completely. It was a struggle (I lived in Portland for God's sake), but in the end, it was SOOOOOO much better. It really does cut it down a lot.
Don't worry about the withdrawls either. Just get some Motrin for the mornings and work through it.

20. Yeah, I go straight decaf now. |
|
The only caffeine I have is the occaisional diet soda when the restaurant does not have caffeine free. Other than that, I stay away from it.
It's true that decaf coffee is never completely caffeine free, but you won't notice it unless you drink 4 pots a day.
I found out that I just need the taste and smell of coffee to wake me up. The caffeine actually did very little.

7. My doc ordered me to stop all dairy products and to get rid of my gfs cat. |
|
The problem is two fold:
1) I love cheese. (I eat cheese with just about every meal.) 2) If given a choice between the cat and me, my gf will keep the cat.

are you allergic to the cat or does it try to claw you eyeballs out? if the former, aren't there drugs for that?
and i was kidding about the fake cheese. it tastes like butt.

I'm very allergic to cat and none of the treatments seem to work for me.
I agree that fake cheese tastes like butt.
I like my doctor, but I don't know if I can do what she asks.

15. you must get rid of the cat |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 04:50 PM by pitohui
if you continue exposure to yr allergy, it will get worse, leading to asthma & then heart disease
better to live w.out the person who doesn't love you enough to care abt yr health than to live w. the cat
seen this progression in a family member who refused to get rid of the cats
my allergy was much more severe initially, i'm older, yet i do not have the asthma or cardio problems because i immediately got rid of the cat
you must breathe
as for the dairy, be sure you did not misunderstand, did she say all dairy or did she say milk, i am not allowed milk, but hard cheese is fine
if it's lactose intolerance, be aware that hard cheese does not contain lactose, doctors are not nutritionists, apparently this is a common mistake they make
hard cheese can be an excellent source of calcium for those who can't tolerate milk

8. Decaf not completely caffeine free, chocolate has a form of caffeine. |
|
Cut back and maybe try meditating. I deal with my anxiety with Kava Kava, course that is supposed to be bad for your liver. No easy answers.

17. chocolate has theobromine |
|
i have caffeine issues & i can tolerate theobromine very well even tho caffeine causes deep muscle pain & sleeplessness in addition to the anxiety the original poster mentions
kava kava did diddly for me
everybody's different
but i do find chocolate useful for when i must stay awake & don't want to risk caffeine, it does keep me awake but there is not the pain or anxiety
i say chocolate is worth a try, for many women it is actually relaxing

I haven't had a coffee, latte, or anything else made from the coffee bean in about 10 years because of a digestive intolerance.
FWIW, the cravings don't last all that long, and you end up feeling better without it after your body acclimates. The constant low-level anxiety experienced by most coffee drinkers creates a certain level of persistent weariness (which prompts you to drink more coffee in order to counter). After your body normalizes, you'll find that you have slightly less "perk", but far more stamina than you ever did while living as a coffee addict.
I have to admit that I still get weak when I smell a quality latte, but I can count all of my coffee drinks in the past decade on one hand. I have co-workers who drink more than that before lunch every day.

14. After being a heavy coffee drinker |
|
for YEARS, my doc ordered me off coffee as I was getting heart palpitations and anxiety, which are very scary. It was fairly easy to get off of it though I still miss it. It's been about 3 months. I love the smell of coffee too. I will drink decaf.
