"Stealth" looks like a total piece of pedestrian shit
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 11:34 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I've seen a few different trailers in theaters, and it looks like good eye candy, but has no actual substance.

It will be like Independance Day, except dumber and more insulting to its audience.

And sadly, the audience, like the Top Gun audience, won't realize how insulted its been and will plunk down sawbuck after sawbuck to rewatch this awful 2 hours of celluloid flotsam.

2. If it wasn't taht going to the movies is oh so expensive
it is a big screen experience that just like ID 4 you go watch for the special effects, not the story

3. It's a mediocre storyline
combined with ho-hum acting. The only cool part is the SFX, and it cannot carry the movie far.

Give it a pass. It came and went from the local movieplex within a week.

Hi Fred.

Hey Ralph.

...

Get this--HAL 9000 meets Top Gun!

Let's do it.

8. Well...if you are a pilot or would like to be, it's OK.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 11:39 PM by MissMarple
It is very piloty. A bit pedantic and preachy, but the visuals aren't all that bad. And the bad guys are very bad and they lose. The technology is possible or in development. Twenty years ago it would have been sci fi. Asimov probably even thought about some of it.

Oh, dear, I said "pedantic", but I meant it. :)

11. And if Asimov had written it, it would have been interesting and GOOD
The base storyline - though done to death in the sci-fi world - is still an interesting storyline.

But it looks like they took a good story idea, and totally fucked it up. Like starting with a Rolls Royce and cutting off the top and hammering the fuck out of the boot with a Humvee and taking a chainsaw to the side panels.

Sure, looks interesting, but a total waste of resources and time.

12. Let me guess, you don't fly airplanes.
The pilot guys I know, liked it, thought it was interesting. Me, I would have waited for a rainy afternoon and watched it on satellite TV.

15. I flew an airplane once - a little cessna like affair.
Great fun.

But, no, I'm not a pilot, and really have no desire to be one.

I'm sure it's great fun for the flyboys, but who cares? Still doesn't mean it's any good.

I fucking love TRON because I'm an electrical engineer with a passion for quantum mechanics and computer and software design. But i'd never claim it was a good film. It's fun for what it is, sure. But it's still bad.

16. Thanks for the warning
We heard all kinds of hype for it...

But I know any excessive hype can only mean one thing...dull movie.

17. Totally implausibly.
It breaks the fueling apparatus at the fueling station in the sky and inserts its' fuel pipe or whatever thingy into a flailing hose. Access had been denied because the access code was changed.

And although I agree with Rabrrr about the movie in general, I thought the AI part was interesting. In the story, the plane is aware and on a sharp learning curve. In some respects it reminded me of the Imax movie documentary on flight training.

That's how a critic described it - makes me laugh, especially since I hate the movie Top Gun.

20. Yeah, I fuckin' hate Top Gun, too
it represents everything that's wrong with American culture that that awful piece of shit was so popular.

And that's exactly what I thought "Stealth" would be, a retarded Top Gun, but I didn't want to use the word retarded.

23. Yep
I fear it will also be filled with jingoistic "soldiers are the most amazing and trustworthy and loyal and, gosh, swell and beautiful and Godly people ever. Really! Ever. Especially American ones because, by God, we're God's country, chosen by God, picked by God, established by God, and, above all, BLESSED BY GOD! especially since 9-11."
