1. Proving once again....

That white box machines(home built or small system builders)will always lead the pack. I'm sure most think that Dell,Compac or HP build 90% of all PC's and then a few are build at home.

Not so,its a much higher percentage of home builts vs branded names.Always has been.

I wish I had the knowledge to build my own. I've always just purchased one from Best Buy. I'm afraid I would completely screw something up and I'd set the house on fire or something!

4. it's not as hard as you think

but it can be frustrating when something goes wrong.
if you are willing to read a little bit there are tons of guides to building PC's on-line.

I may try it next time and see how it goes. The cool thing is that I could decide how big a hdd, how much memory, etc.

5. Built my home and work PCs myself.

It's fun and you get better bang for the buck. It's really not all that hard if you just work past your fears of screwing things up.

You'll normally get a better warranty, and a lot better service from them.

My wife builds all of ours: AMD processors on ACIS motherboards and OEM copies of Windows, with dual-booting into SuSE Linux. On-site 24/7 tech support from a hottie, too.
