Pray for me. I'm about to get on my son's Yamaha 80 to go to the mailbox.
I had a heat stroke while we were towing my car back from Texas yesterday, so I can't walk to the gate. Going to take the Yamaha instead.

With my luck this past week, please say a prayer, send good thoughts, that I will make it to the gate and back without injury.

3. I sent this through PM to merh, but I'll post it here. Yes, I had a...
heat stroke:

We made it in last night at about 11:00. My dad's Dodge Ram's heater coil sprung a leak in Kilgore. We had to stop every 30 miles and put water in the radiator, and refill our water supply (ice chests, buckets, one rubbermaid tub) so that we would have more water for the next stop. It took us over 12 hours to get home.

Because we couldn't run the air all of the way home, I had a heat stroke (I guess that's what you call it when you get overheated and your body reacts) in Monroe. We had to stop for an hour and I had "intestinal problems" (to put it nicely) and I threw up and threw up and threw up. We bought a bag of Ice, and I had some towels in my suitcase, so I kept ice on myself and drank cold water the rest of the way home. Probably should have gone to a doctor, but we really didn't have time. I haven't eaten anything since yesterday morning, so I'm trying to get my appetite back so I can eat something. I'm still really weak.

This morning, my dad came and got me and we cleaned out my car and he just towed it to the mechanic. If it's the motor, I'm going to be in the market for a Toyota Tacoma or one of those nifty Subarus I saw recently in an ad. Whatever I get, it will either be used or come from an auction. I don't have money to buy anything new.

I'm reading through threads to see what the latest news is from Crawford, and then I'm going to go to sleep for awhile.

6. Be careful, you are probably dehydrated. Drink
plenty of fluids. Water and Gatoraide. Take care!! Monitor your bathroom useage just to make sure your kidneys are still working well! (My hubby went through this last year and was hospitalized for three days)

8. Ok, now I'm a little scared.
I feel like I have a kidney or bladder infection. I've been drinking as much ginger ale as I can keep down.

Haven't eaten yet. Have had more "intestinal problems" and have thrown up. And the headache. Maybe I need to go to the doctor.

I am by no means trying to scare you and I do not want to get this locked. Do you have a fever or a low temperature? My hubby's dropped to 93 degrees. And please keep us posted so we will know when you feel better!

13. I haven't taken my temp. I've slept most of the day.
My son is with my parents today, so that I can get some rest. All I've wanted to do is sleep.

I think sabbat below is right...it's heat exhaustion. I'll take my temp in a sec.

36. Your temp is probably going to show up rather normal
It's your organs that are fighting for liquids that are causing the discomfort. And I hate to say this publicly, so I'll PM it instead.

Those Aquafine commercials aren't lying, your body does operate better with water, always.

23. You need a steady supply of water. Cool water absorbs best
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 04:26 PM by DS1
Rushing it is wasteful, the keyword is steady. Just keep sipping on it, in a cool environment. You are beyond the emergency point, but your body is still all fuckered up re: hydration.

Chugging water will just make it run right through you, and give you false readings on your urine. Clear is the goal, it means you're hydrated, if it's copper coloured, might want to get hydrated via an intravenous drip. Depends on your medical insurance status I suppose.

Don't stop sipping water until well after dinner. Don't bloat yourself, but keep up the supply.

29. Thanks for the advice, DS1 and Shell.
I'm changing from ginger ale to water, then. I'll follow your advice to the tee.

I'm feeling much better. I think, yesterday, it was the combination of the heat, diesel fumes on the highway, and frustration that made me sick...

If I don't feel like myself by tomorrow AM, I'll call my doc friend.

10. more likely
heat exhaustion if you had heat stroke you would have been hospitalized as when you get heat stroke your body loses control of its temperature and it can go up very high without treatment.

heat exhaustion resembles the symptoms you describe. still nasty, but much less severe and less long term possible adverse side effects.

stay inside and drink lots of juice for a while though

peace

you feel like you have a bladder infection. I mean, if you have normal urine output, then you probably aren't dehydrated and it was likely exhaustion. I just want to make sure you are okay!

16. Kinda like...
urge to go but can't.

My lips and face were tingly last night, but that's gone away.

I put a ham in the oven...am craving a salty ham sandwich and baked potato. I think I'm ok...I do want to eat. It'll just be awhile until it's ready.

I've been sipping on ginger ale and can hold it down. I couldn't hold down Coke or anything dark.

Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 04:13 PM by Shell Beau
you those electrolytes you need. You probably need some salt too. You can pinch your skin and if if bounces back normally, then you are probably fine. If there is no elasticity, that is a sign of dehydration. I know all of this b/c of my hubby. He is a landscaper and he is in the heat all of the time and after he had his dehydration episode, I check on everything by what the doc told me to go by!

7. For a little dirt bike, that thing has some kick to it.
On Christmas eve, when I was moving it from the shed to the house (it was his Santa gift), I kick started it, and then promptly picked my ass up off the grass. I found the dirt bike about 30 feet away. Didn't know that it was that fast.

I've learned, though. :-)

Don't push your luck! :hi:

Fingers crossed -- and remember, if you stil aren't feeling better, you need to go to the doctor.

Pinch your skin on your arm between your forefinger and thumb - does it automatically return to its position or does it stay pinched????

Please take care! You owe me coctails and the way you have been carrying on about your ham in the oven, a real ham samwich one day too!

aware of - if the skin returns to its normal position, there is enough fluid in her system - if it stays pinched, she better get to the hospital. Dehydration can mess with the organs! :scared:
