Put my mother in a nursing home today.
She has Alzheimer's and is 92. I've taken care of her 24/7 for the last three years. It went well. She is very confused but not upset. Will go to see her tomorrow.

Now I will return to my Florida home and try to kick-start my life that has been on hold. My sister lives a few blocks from the nursing home and will keep an I on our mother. I plan to visit occasionaly, but will spend most of my time now in Florida.

Please send prayers and good vibes to my mother.

Thanks...lumberingbear

7. Yes it is sad to have her go through this, but...
she had a wonderful life up until she was 89. We will try to remember all those good times, rather than the bad at the end of her life.

11. My dearest lumberingbear....
You have taken a very important and necessary step...

Both for your mom and for you...

I'm sure you are aware that as Alzheimer's progresses, it becomes more and more troublesome to care for the person who has it....

The end of life is such a fragile time...much like the beginning...

She is in the best place for her now....to end her days...

And you can resume the life you are meant to lead...no longer on hold...

where you have to go ahead and live your life.
I'm glad she's not upset.
If she was compos mentis, she'd make the same decision.

21. My mom has been in one for 6 years...she's 92, also.
We just moved her to another one with an Alzheimer's Unit...no medical patients. She's healthy otherwise...she moves around in her wheelchair becasue of her arthritis, but, it's a nice set-up.

She's now only 5 minutes away from my brothers house so he can see her every day. She has her "good" times of the day and is pretty lucid most of the time.

I really mean that.

I had to make that most difficult choice twice, once with dad and then again with mom. I really think there is almost nothing has stressful as what you have come through.

30. It's tough but you did a loving thing
We put my mother in a home 2 years ago (also with Alzheimers). It was very hard on me as I was the caregiver and it made me realize that I was no longer capable of taking care of her. I thought she would hate it and would go downhill rapidly, but instead she has flourished. She loves it there (I don't think she knows where she is) gets MUCH better care than I could ever give her, and is surrounded by people. I can't believe how well it's turned out for us. We put her in a home that is old and unelegant, but the people who work there are the tops...and that's what's important.

I wish you well.

31. We had to put my mother
in a nursing home three years before she passed away. Some advice that was given us when we did this is: Don't visit on the same day of the week or the same time of day. Mix it up. You can get a better idea of how well she is being taken care of this way.

My sister is just a few blocks away from the nursing home and will be dropping in at different times. Luckily this is a small town and everyone knows everyone. From what all I hear, everyone is well taken care of.
