How come some people
write mindless, rhetorical one-liners and get lots of responses and are revered...

but when others do, they get 0 responses and are ignored, or worse yet told that their posts or polls only deserve sarcastic responses? (yet those same insulters don't do the same to the other folks who post the SAME types of things.)

Jus' askin'.

1. I would imagine it has to do with the history of the person posting...
I don't react the same to two different people I know saying the same things either. I might have a really funny, sarcastic friend who I always expect to make me laugh based on what's happened in the past. I might have another friend who is usually morose and depressed, who I always expect to speak from that place. I would probably react very differently to them saying the exact same thing.

2. I have no idea.
I note that most of my threads die a quick death, but then someone else posts nearly the same concept and the thread buoys up.

Nothing against them, and in fairness, I think people form bonds with people and therefore will automatically open threads by them. I think its a natural dynamic on a message board, and one this huge, and the fact that threads can die quickly in the influx of new threads, I don't think anyone should take it personally or overanalyze it.

6. Another thing
Since some of us have observed that lengthy thoughtful posts may be totally ignored, we don't bother to spend a lot of time on a post. So in a way quick one-liner posts are encouraged by the system!

7. Also timing -- It seems there's more of a crowd here certain times
Plus things slow down during certain seasons...
