Just had my cat weighed...
When we first moved to Tallahassee, Greekspeak and I took our cat into the Vets office for a checkup. At the time (a little over 2 years ago) he weighed close to 20 pounds. Other than that, and needing his teeth cleaned, he was in good health. The Vet wanted him at 13 pounds to do the teeth cleaning because he would need to go to sleep to have THAT done, so we put him on a diet.

One half cup of food per day, and it had to be a special diet food that we can only get at the vets office. (Hill's Science Diet RD formula)

About a month ago, I took him in to get weighed and he was down to 14 pounds! Today, I took him in and he's at 14 1/2 pounds. So, we've gained a half pound! I would think over two years would be plenty of time to be on a diet, but I guess not. *sigh* I know *I* wouldn't want to be on a diet that long! So, here's Josephus in one of his favorite places to lay down.

1. 20 pounds!
chubby little thing. Two years is a long time to be on a diet. Poor kitty! Still at that size, losing almost 6 pounds is a lot of weight.

4. Yes, I know...
But I was looking forward to getting his teeth cleaned so I could buy regular 'ol food again! Those bags of Science Diet are $25.00 for a 10 pound bag!

5. I would HATE to put my pet on a diet!
I have cats who go outdoors, so they get plenty of exercise and don't get fat. But I "dogsit" my friends' dogs sometimes, and some of them are on diets. It's so pathetic. They follow me around the house (especially into the kitchen), thinking I'm going to give them something extra to eat. (Sometimes I break down and give them a "secret" cookie!) I just can't stand to see those big brown eyes looking up at me pleadingly. I'm so glad I never had to put one of my cats on a diet; I don't know if I could do it.

2. The poor little thing -- it would be
so hard to lose, what, 30% of your total body weight! On second thought, maybe I need someone to take all food away from me & only issue me a certain amount a day -- I can't seem to do it any other way! :)

3. RD is an excellent weight loss food
both my dogs are on it, one went from 94 lbs down to 55 lbs, that stuff really works; sounds like your kitty did very well, and I see no reason why they can't do the cleaning at his weight now.

6. Awwww, Clintmax.
We've been there with The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger, who two years ago was pronounced by his doctor to be "a little on the limit." Same thing: Hill's Science Diet for "voloptuous cats" and no more table food (I know, I know). But once he became accustomed to the food, he gradually lost the extra kilos (over what seemed like a very long period of time).

What does Josephus' doctor say about the half-pound "advance"?

Here's His Royal Highness, Ginger:

9. She asked me if he had been sneaking food...
And he hasn't. We keep that RD WAAAYYY up on top of the refridgerator, so he can't get to it. What he HAS been doing is turning over the trash can and getting at anything in there fit to eat. I had to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and get one of those big heavy metal cans that have a lid you have to push a pedal down to open to keep him from doing that anymore. *the little shit!*

She smiled and said we'll just keep working to get him to the 13 pound goal.
