ALL Coffee Chain Coffee SUCKS (are you people NUTS?)
Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Honey Dew, ALL FUCKING SUCK!

i have almost NEVER had a good cup of 'take-out' coffee. half the time its old or burnt, too much sugar, not enough cream, etc... And drinking coffee out of styrofoam has NEVER made sense to me. :eyes:

EVERY morning, Mrs Matcom and I put a full scoop of good old Folgers or Maxwell House or whatever in our coffee maker and brew a pot. if we want coffee at night, we do the same.

just makes no sense to me to pay what you people pay for a coffee that (95% of the time) is gonna SUCK!

we get the OCCASIONAL flavored coffee at a chain (Dunkin here in MA) but that happens maybe once every 3 months. $6-$8 (depending on prices) keeps us in coffee for AT LEAST a month (probably more) and that is usually TWO coffee's for some of you.

i just don't get it.

now.............................

6. You are correct.
I used to use Folger's.
Now I buy beans and grind 'em myself. They're from a local place called The Roasterie, and it's the best coffee I've had since that Turkish freighter came into port.

11. I totally agree.
I hate Starbucks and most chain coffee's. Dark Roast? Like charcoal, imo.

I like a nice, freshly brewed, smooth cup of unflavoured light roast. Sometimes some hazelnut or other flavour. But usually, just plain light roast.

But that burnt flavour? Yeech.

And yes, Folgers or Maxwell house is just fine.

12. Try this once before damning all chain coffee
Try the mail order Peets Mocha-Java blend - Its roasted the day they ship it. Plus they have been around longer than Starbucks - actually the guys that started Starbucks worked there and left because Peets wanted to stay focused on coffee quality and their employees .

I have found the mail order coffee is better than the coffee in their shops - the freshness really makes a huge difference.

www.peets.com

I live in a town with no Peets so I mail order it a couple times per year as a treat. Most of the time I drink the same crappy joe everyone else does.

33. Peets is THE BEST commercial coffee ever.
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 06:26 PM by stlsaxman
'n fact the guy that started Starbucks used to work for Peet. Wanted Mr. Peet to get a nationwide franchise. Peet said no- he wouldn't be able to buy the beans himself. Is that a class act or what!?!?

Am i right about this?

But, I have a local roaster that is just as good as Peet's. It's named Kaldi Coffee. Six years ago I had a cup of this coffee in a restaurant we frequented. I jumped out of my seat it was so good! On the way out we walked past the restaurant owner and I told him I haven't had a cup of coffee that good since I last had Peet's- Howard, the owner of the roaster was next to him and introduced himself. "I roasted those beans, sir, and the coffee that inspired me to open a store myself was Peet's". Gave me his card and I was at his store the next morning. Buying my coffee there ever since.

Sumatra Mandieling is God's little gift to ME!

13. ExpressOasis changed my opinion on that
Nice name huh?

It is the coffee stand in the hospital and the Mocca Milano is AWESOME! Hazelnut, chocolate, and cinnamon (soehting like that) was unbelieveable. I went to a Starbucks, to get my wife a Frapparrappacino, and the flunky there couldn't make it the same.

The only problem is that it doesn't stay hot very long so you have to gulp it down.

20. Yup---I would never pay for just a plain cup of coffee.
It's got to be flavored, or latted, or coolatta-ied.... I don't get the people who come in regularly for just a regular houseblend.

But diff'rent strokes and all that...

16. Chain coffee=yuck.
However, canned, ground coffee also=yuck, philistine.

Stuff tastes like chicory...I like to grind my own (french roast=yum, btw) for each pot.

Now that is a cuppa I can get behind.

21. Have to agree about chain coffee, most of it is crap
However Folgers in my cup just isn't going to cut it! I find that my coffee is much more flavorful if I get whole bean Millstone and grind it myself. Canned coffee just tastes stale and flat to me.

Chain coffee I'm not thrilled with, but there are a couple of local shops that I love. My favorite is Osama's Coffee Zone. Great coffee and food with a ME twist. If you're ever in Columbia, you've got to stop by Osama's!

32. Actually, I agree w/ you.
I buy a pound of 8 o'clock coffee and grind it for each use. It tastes better than most take-out coffee.
When I do get a cup of coffee to go I get it from a local coffee shop around here. It always tastes better than the chains.
