Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 03:45 PM by SoCalDem
:)..Caution.. there is BLOOD in the pics..If you are squeamish..look away:)

You knwo what they say about it being the DULL knife that cuts you?? "They" are wrong.. I got a brand new SHARP knife..tried to cut the avocado for my salad, and the damn thing slipped.. I stabbed my left hand..

Fist glance.. wasn't too bad..held ice onto the "muscley" part to stop the blood..

Then I put some cotton and ..yes it IS packaging tape.. but it's all I could find..but it still bled so

I took the tape off and prepared for self-surgery

Can't see worth shit, so I had to go next door to have my neighbor thread the needle for me. All I could find was green thread..

13. Nicely done
Tough to stitch the hand, too, since you can only use one to do it. I keep a couple of suture sets handy because really there's no need to go sit in the ER for ten hours just to get a couple of stitches - I always keep my tetanus up to date because I'm forever cutting myself.

I stitched one about two months ago on the same hand and just a bit further up from yours - more on the side rather than the palm. Actually, the scar isn't even too noticeable and it was a good one too - about the same size as yours.

After doing it, I had to just about resuscitate my hubby - he would faint just looking at your pics!

14. I found the needle in my Mother in Law's sewing kit..She died in '91
I knew I was keeping the sewing kit for a reason.. I used alcohol to soak the needle & thread before I sewed it up..I should have looked for a "sharps" needle.. I just grabbed the first one I found, and it was a bit dull:eyes:

23. I love the packaging tape!
It seems like my kids are always running off with the medical tape for sports stuff.

I haven't done anything like that since the coconut incident in 1989. Here I am at home with a toddler and a baby thinking I'd crack open this here coconut. Well, it didn't come off the shell like I wanted so I grabbed a knife to wedge betweent he shell and the meat. Careful as I was, it slipped and cut my palm along the thumb. Wasn't deep enough I needed stitches, but it was slow to stop bleeding so I called hubby home to give me a hand at lunch time.

It wouldn't have occured to me to stitch myself up. You are tough as nails, socaldem. I bow to your greatness.

27. Hammers are the best coconut-crackers
and an icepick to poke into the indentations to drain the milk first. they open easily when the milk is out.. We used to crack them on the curb, and then bang the rounded halves together to make smaller pieces..Nothing better than REAL coconut :)

and Tape is tape.. The fancy "medical tape" doesn;t work all that much better:)

36. I do the hammer thing and substitute a small screwdriver for the ice pick
But the meat wouldn't come loose from the shell so I was wedging that knife in there and slipped.

If they just made a FOOL-proof tool for getting the meat off the shell, the world would be a lot safer.
