recommend some beachy/ lusty/silly summer films for me
It's that time of year. School doesn't start for about 2 weeks and I have reached that " when does school start?" point. It's been fun, but I am ready for adult and silly amusements, as opposed to kid flicks.

So I am in need of some diversion and we missed a trip to the beach this year. So humor me and recommend some beachy/romantic/lusty/whatever end of summer flicks.

Thanks! :)

3. How adult are you? I'd recommend "The Aristocrats" but only if you're
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 04:47 PM by NYCGirl
OVER 18.

Edited to add: That satisfies the "lusty" part of your needs — but also "dirty", "sick", and "incredibly hilarious."

13. it is?
maybe I will add it to the list!

I was thinking that I haven't seen a lot of those older flix since I was too young to get the double entendres. I am going to make a list now and I just might sit on the couch all weekend watching these things and let the menfolk wait on Me.

17. I won't praise it lavishly
but their are some silly gags and sleazy 60's "playboy" behavior. More campy these days than anything else. Fun time capsule to see how society has changed.

Some months ago a DUer generously made me a DVD copy of his VHS tape and it was, admittedly, pretty damn entertaining.

My kids were repulsed, they wouldn't stay in the same room as the humor was too corny! Lots of eye candy that would now be old men and women in rest homes!

6. A silly movie I liked a lot: "Psycho Beach Party"
From director, playwright (and drag queen extraordinare) Charles Busch. A takeoff on those Annette and Frankie Beach movies, but with a lot of hnmor. Stars Busch and Thomas Gibson ("Greg" from "Dharma and Greg").

7. This caught my eye in this week's Mercury.
http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/Content?oid=34395&category=22208

• Wet Hot American Summer (2001)—This parody of the '80s summer-camp genre takes place on the last day of summer camp, where, by custom, fulfilling the promise of the movie's title is a must. In this retelling of countless other teen-sex comedies, soft-core sex scenes aren't just the domain of healthy hetero boys and girls, but (or should I say "butt"?) love is also consummated between two strapping young men in a tool shed.

it was terrible. (maybe I shouldn't apply any standards to those kind of films, though.) ;)

or maybe I'm thinking of another one by that name. Nope, just looked it up, that was the one. Sorry to be such a snob!

22. Thanks for asking. I'm fine.
Well quite tired, really. Crazy social season just sort of ending tomorrow. Kind of exhausting for an introvert, but it has been a pretty fun summer, all things considered.

How's that bass?

26. you're an introvert?!
Interesting. ;)

Extrovert here, but even I am ready for a little quiet time... and ready to start working more again. I really laze off in the summer since my kid is home. I feel like I have been mommy social director all summer, the pool, the camps, trying to get my kid to shut off the Gamecube, etc.

I tried to write a little here and there on the bass. I usually write songs on acoustic guitar or the piano, so using the bass gives a very different feel to the melodies/ root notes. I keep going back to Joy Divisionish stuff though, kind of funny!

23. hmm
good one. What was the Hitchcock my h and I watched a few months ago, that ought to meet my criteria. To Catch A Thief: Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, 40s post war Monte Carlo type- location, intrigue, ocean. Not too many bodies by Hitch standards. That's the good old stuff, too.

:hi:

32. wow how old was she by then?
;)

the old standards are looking pretty good about now.

That being said, I did rent Blue Crush - the surfer chicks make good film, last night. Beautiful scenery, fairly realistic surf scenes ( at least they looked realistic), some social commentary, folks easy to look at, dialogue not too stupid, a bit of "action." It was pretty good.

37. Can't go wrong w/ Beyond.
Crappy girl band rock from the early 70's, drugs, confusion, hetero sex, gay sex, lesbian sex, mass murder, porn stars-you name it, it's there (except for cannibalism).
Even better when you're high.

41. "One Crazy Summer" with John Cusack
Hardcore fans of Cusack and writer-director Savage Steve Holland tend to favor the more biting and twisted "Better Off Dead," but I prefer this lighthearted, goofy classic. (The humor's not a dark as "Better," but still has a definite whacked-out edge--check out the bit about the "face freeze," or the animal hospital.) Demi Moore has also rarely been so at ease and charming.
