A coworker who is known to dislike me is taking advantage of
a character flaw inherant in me.

And I fear she shall succeed.

If I get demoted or lose my job, which is likely, it's all over.

What can I do?

Ultimately, I'll get the last laugh. I'll tell her of peak oil and everything else on the final day. The witch deserves no less...

1. Care to fill us in?
We can't help if we don't know more about the situation.

2. I cannot.
Still. She's only human. I will have more fun telling them of how their lives will be ruined anyway.

Seems I'm somewhat human too.

3. Minimize your interaction with her

to that necessary to perform your job professionally.

Keep a record of things she does that are offensive or inappropriate. Keep copies of email.

Take responsibility for your reaction/response to her behavior. Consider the source.

Involve a manager and/or HR if she does something that is clearly illegal or violates company policy. This generally includes creating a hostile work environment.

4. I'm sorry to say it,
but a description of a poorly-understood global catastrophe some unknown distance in the future is probably not going to ruin anyone's day. You'd be better off just filling their computers with bomb-making instructions and calling the cops...

6. Just stare at her, smile a lot, and tell her how special she is.
 Really, really special.
