I Miss the Lounge!
I have so little time these days - that I haven't been able to hang out here in the lounge, for what feels like eons. Even tonight, my time is brief - will have to dheck out soon relatively quickly. Just wanted to say "hey! - I miss you, and wish I could hang out more with you - as the lounge is such a happening place, with such groovin' folks!"

7. Exhausted - but more than okay....
thanks midlo - hope you are well. Any advice to one who has been, sadly, absent from the lounge in the past couple of months? Buzz words to use or to avoid?

Btw, thanks for the energy you have expended making the boards run smoothly. I have never had enough consistent time to volunteer to mod - not sure if you are doing so now - but did see that you have done so recently. Just wanted to say thanks. :hi:

12. If you place panda, or squid in your posts,
you should be fine!!!

You know the lounge. Same old wonderful people with the same commitment taking a break from the complexities of GD or GDP.

As an aside, I love being a mod. It forces me to read forums I normally wouldn't if left to my own devices and gives me a much better understanding of the way this board works.

15. if I ever have the time - I think I would enjoy
the broader reading (per following forums I wouldn't normally follow); Talk about beginning to get a bigger picture.

My father was a professor - who stopped by the School of Journalism reading library (daily newspapers from around the country) at lunch. He must have scanned the headlines from at least six papers. This was pre-internet. Sounds like being a mod might create the same situation (reading items from a broader range of sources - and on a broader range of sources) - how very cool.

:-)

17. I am telling you. It has greatly expanded my universe.
I am a very, very, uber liberal dem, and I often didn't see the viewpoint of those who were more moderate, but still members of the party.

Being a mod has forced me to open this middle aged mind. I have decided that the people who are regulars here are kind, wonderful people and deserve to have their opinions taken into consideration.

It has really opened my eyes to the whole 'big tent' thing. I think it has made me a better person because I am more tolerant.

In a word, I love DU.

21. Me, Too
I love DU. And per your insight, to live up to my commitment - a long time ago - to the admin - that when I could live up to the time commitment that I would serve a mod term.

23. I probably have a slight advantage over most in that regard.
I work from home and work on the internet doing research...so it is not too hard for me to surf over and see what is going on at DU.

I feel as though I have the best of all possible worlds, contributing, and taking care of my kids AND getting to post on DU!!!

How much better can life get?

13. While we have stopped "meeting" in Indy (though that may
change) - there seems to be a growing DU Indy contingent - maybe someday it will grow enough to hold an event worthy of attracting Texans... :hi:

Can't expect that Willmingham is that much more happening than Indy.

11. Smooches to you Maddy!
I so miss the community of the lounge.

And was starting to feel (self pity party) feel pretty forgotten. May that only be a comment on how I feel about the lounge. If the community was just a superficial one to me, I wouldn't really care were I feeling "forgotten."

Btw, I am so with your trip to Texas - how very, very cool for you - and the message you sent to youngmaleMacCall!

16. per a big eighties song line and title:
"Alive and Kicking!" (Simple MInds). Very little spare time outside of work - but very rewarding work. But I so miss hanging out with you!

How are you doing? Sorry about your recent, deep loss. Your tribute to your father was so very beautiful.

24. When I lost my father
it took quite awhile before the pain of the loss wasn't life a bandaid being torn off (with skin) from a wound. Then, over time, the memories became warm and comforting rather than pain/loss inducing. Work through the pain - and eventually you will find comfort that will carry you for years. :loveya:

Bush has been hi-tailing all this week and he and Rove even missed the Friday news dump.

18. In my limited time - I still read LBN
nearly daily. Often very early in the am and very late in the day. Things are far far too interestinbg to not follow. Curious per your comment per missing the news dump. With your insight - I would guess there is a context that I am missing - what have rovebushco missed this weekend?

btw, I hope you know how much I appreciate your commentary on news itesm. Especially when I have limited reading time - I have to zero in on the story - and a few comments (due to very limited time). If you have commented on a story - I skip to your thoughts. Thanks.
