Recommend a good music video DVD?
I have a gift certificate for Amazon that I would like to spend on some concert video or something. What is one that you recommend?

For anyone who wants to watch or buy a good one, my current favorite is the Magikat concert Cat Stevens DVD that was taped in the 70's about 6 months before he quit the music biz. A most awesome live collection of his best tunes. Brings back a flood of memories. It also has some interesting extras with Yusef Islam describing how he went from Cat and what motivated him to change his life.

27. I was about to say that, actually.
Also Tool has said they are going to release a live DVD for years and haven't yet. Knowing Tool they probably won't. That would be great though.

Also Gentle Giant's "Giant on the Box" is great.

Go here: http://www.animusic.com/dvd-info-clips-1.html

Click "Video Clip" next to each song. You can buy this DVD on Amazon also.

On edit: My favorite is "Harmonic Voltage" at the bottom of the page.

4. Some oldies I bought recently:
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 09:54 PM by The Backlash Cometh
On edit: Scratch the recommendations. They're CDs.

SpyroGyra, "Goin South," and Little River Band.

And I've particularly grown fond of the Johnson Brother's "Get that funk out of my face."

25. I wish there was a Little Feat dvd
Little River Band reminded me of them. I used to see them in the bars in Arizona for a dollar. Lowell George was awesome. Actually there is a DVD from Germany, but I hear the quality is not that great.

20. I like Robbie Robertson
Did you ever see the movie Carny? He was in it with Gary Busey and Jodie Foster. Kind of a hot strange flick. A little hard to find.

Who else is gonna bring you
A broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you
A bottle of rain
There he goes, moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole
world around

Do you feel what I feel
Can we make that so it's part of the deal
I gotta hold you in these arms of steel
Lay your heart on the line ... this time

I wanna breathe when you breathe
When you whisper like that hot
summer breeze
Count the beads of sweat that cover me
Didn't you show me a sign, this time

Who else is gonna bring you
A broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you
A bottle of rain
There he goes, moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole
world around

Can you see what I see
Can you cut behind the mystery
I will meet you by the witness tree
Leave the whole world behind

I want to come when you call
I'll get to you if I have to crawl
They can't hold me with these iron walls
We've got mountains to climb

Who else is gonna bring you
A broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you
A bottle of rain
There he goes, moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole
world around

6. Well it might not be up your alley, but for what it's worth...
I think that the Placebo - Soulmates Never Die - Live in Paris 2003 DVD is one of the better concert DVDs out there.

Naturally, I'm biased. But I've seen a lot of concert DVDs and this is a good one. You get the concert, a documentary, and like 3 hidden extras. Pretty cool. :)

9. Any of the Bonnaroo festivals ....
... but I don't think this year's is out yet.
It should COMPLETELY kick ass when it is released, because the festival itself was ... beyond words.

... it's a weekend long arts and music festival held for the past 5 years mid-June in Manchester, TN.

Some of everything, from Dave Matthews to John Prine to De La Soul and everything in between ....

Similar to an annual, mini-Woodstock.

23. I got to go to a Corrs concert at the Kodak Theatre and they were
simply marvelous. The DVD I mentioned had the sister who's the drummer, but she had just had a baby and couldn't attend the concert. After watching the DVD, I'm really sorry she wasn't there cause she was awesome. My favorite is Sharon, the fiddler.

29. Genre switch: Rage Against the Machine at the Olympic Grand
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 10:35 AM by UCLA02
I never was much into their music, still not, (angry youth with no ideas except train-robber bandana masks and their fists in the air do nothing for me) but the show on DVD, supposedly RATM's last, is simply electric.

The DVD is also worth the $9.99 I paid on the sale rack for the footage of their concert from the 2000 DNC parking lot, and the well-documented police abuses.

**
Sorry if my raised the volume too loudly on a thread that has the Corrs and Cat Stevens, but it's a beautiful Saturday morning here in SoCal, so open the doors, "drop the needle" and turn it up... ;-)

Gotta admit I still can't deal with the likes of Korn, etc. The screaming noise. I try to give various groups at least one or two listens.

32. Gotta recommend Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000DBJDM/qid=1124557918/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-9089476-2644952?v=glance&s=dvd

At $9.97 it a great bargain for a classic performance of Pink Floyd in their prime. Also lots of great footage of them in Abbey Road making Dark Side of the Moon.

33. bridgit's rec is predictably excellent. I love "The Last Waltz." And
predictably not excellent is my own recommendation, "DIG!" which I have to watch when nobody else is around because nobody else I know can stand to watch two seconds of this documentary about narcissistic hipster dipshits whose mouths are never closed.

I recommend it highly:
