I HATE IT ~ when I take something in for repair & it is a BIG PROBLEM!
There is nothing wrong with my cruise control ... but it wasn't working ... lets see how much it's gonna cost to bailout my trike after days of trying to trace down an electrical problem :scared: that THEY can't find!

BTW ... I also ask them to check out my front tire :nuke: they said I have an alignment problem!

IT LOOKES LIKE MY 1,500 MILE RIDE IS OFF!

5. I SHOCKED & amazed ~ no charge!
As I stood in my local Honda shop ... with STEAM emanating ............ the very calm mechanic said "no charge".

My reply "WHY!" ... and then I sputtered "Thank you, but really why? You have been working on my Goldwing for days, why is there 'no charge'?"

Jeff answered ... "All we did was ride it several times and the cruise control didn't show any problems. Sometimes the throw out spring in one of the clutch or brake controls isn't returning to a normal position ... try pushing out on the levers before activating the cruise."

He also said "You have a problem with the right side trike body and we don't work on that."

WE talked about my concerns regarding the front tire. He agreed with me about replacing the tire AFTER the other problems are corrected. He said (very diplomatically) some people might ride it with the front tire as is, but he wouldn't.

bottom line ... if it can't be fixed on Monday so that I can test ride it Tuesday ... I'm not taking it out at high speeds on Wednesday

10. thanks ~ BikeWriter
I was planning to change that front tire anyway. My Harley riding friends looked at it and said 'no problem'. I trust my instincts when it comes to staying safe. I've never gone wrong by being too cautious.

2. In all fairness - electrical problems can be a real
PAIN. Is an alignment for a trike that bad? Seems like it wouldn't be much worse than a new tire?

6. They were MORE than fair. They didn't charge me.
The problem isn't a simple alignment. I believe that it may have a weak or faulty shock that should be replaced before I buy a new front tire.

It can and will all be fixed. I'm just buggin cause my birthday is Wednesday and the ride was my present to me. I rode over to vent a bit while talking with my house mate ... a real foot stamping tantrum!

Two other friends watched the whole process ... then ... laughed ... telling me 'you're cute when you're mad' :nuke: which only makes me fume a little more ... cause I've heard that one for years!

9. it's OK so far ... next week I'll take the trike back to the shop
where it was built. They really are nice people. I'm sure they will do their best to fix whatever the problem is. I was just having a childish reaction to watching another of my plans sinking out of reach ... but ... they may be able to fix the problem quickly enough to send me on my way.

I have lots of free time but I'm trying to coordinate the trip around Sugar's plans for the rest of her summer too. I won't do a long ride around Labor Day Weekend. I've got to be back in my truck in time to head to DC for September 24th. Then ... I feel like I can't travel until after the meet-up I've invited DU to on Columbus Day Weekend in Woodstock.

I just want a few clean changes of clothes and miles of open road before me ... very small problems compared to the rest of the world

i find myself getting real 'que sera' about certain things & matters i can't get my arms all the way around from time to time. did have to think there for a minute though, "woodstock, hm...columbus day, columbus day; that's october right!!" in checking, we'll be up & down the left coast mid october ~ september but a girl can still have a flash-dream there for a bit. my take is that it would be a hoot!

:D

13. drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain...
The beat goes on, the beat goes on.
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain.
La de da de de, la de da de da.

Charleston was once the rage, uh huh.
History has turned the page, uh huh.
The miniskirt's the current thing, uh huh.
Tennybopper is our newborn king, uh huh.

And the beat goes on, the beat goes on.
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain.
La de da de de, la de da de da.

The grocery store's the supermart, uh huh.
Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh.
And men still keep on marching off to war.
Electrically they keep a baseball score.

And the beat goes on, the beat goes on.
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain.
La de da de de, la de da de da.

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce
Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss.
The cars keep going faster all the time.
Bums still cry 'Hey buddy, have you got a dime?'

And the beat goes on, the beat goes on.
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain.
La de da de de, la de da de da

15. So, JA, as a trike rider and therefore an expert, please tell me
what's cooler: A trike, or a motorcycle with a sidecar.

Anyone else can weigh in with an opinion as well.

After having (I believe) used up all my luck many years ago by experiencing a motorcycle accident that should have killed me, but from which I walked away without a scratch, I have sworn to never irde a motorcycle again (also, the fact that so many people I've know have gotten dead in motorcycle accidents has put me off them).

But a trike, or a bike with a sidecar, those wouldn't give me the willies, I think.

So which is cooler?

Redstone

18. A Trike is FAR better than a motorcycle with a sidecar.
The trike will provide stability because the riders weight is balanced squarely. It won't make a bit of difference whether the backseat passenger leans with or against the curve.

A motorcycle with a sidecar is likely to 'lift' on sharp turns.

BTW ~ with the right 'trike body' you have the advantage of a trunk
